Steve Perry is the only child of Raymond F. Perry (formerly Pereira, meaning pear tree) and Mary C. Quaresma and is of Portuguese heritage.
Steve was brought on tour and performed a song with Journey during a sound check in Long Beach.
Perry said on his website that it was a good experience, and that tensions between him and the other band members were reduced, but that his rejoining Journey is not going to happen.

The split came in the wake of a conversation between Perry and Journey keyboardist Jonathan Cain in which it was decided that, if Perry's health issues prohibited him from committing to a tour at that time, Cain and original Journey guitarist Neil Schon would reform the band with a new singer.
Perry has recently worked with David Foster and Carole Bayer-Sager in writing and recording "I Stand Alone," the principle track for the soundtrack to the animated feature film Quest For Camelot.

However, recently I've been disturbed by rumors I've been hearing about strife within the band, particularly set off by their announcement that they were going to take a year off at the conclusion of their current tour.
