Rude's style is a mixture of 1960s smooth lines and square jaws (reminiscent of Jack Kirby) and more modern work with thick lines and complex compositions.
Rude is a devotee of the illustrator Andrew Loomis, an influence that is evident in his style and particularly in his sketchbooks.

Rude carries it all off with his characteristic mastery of the inking brush, suggesting musculature, weight and fabric with an economy of lines that thicken or thin in just the right places.
Artists like Steve Rude are more concerned with doing the character right than they are with "making their mark" with a "radical new approach," so they don't mind returning to the classic look that made Superman an icon in the first place.

Steve Rude's The Moth Double-Sized Special Review - Silver Bullet Comics
Steve Rude is best known for Nexus a character inspired by Space Ghost before being reduced into becoming a cartoon talk show host.
Rude has illustrated World's Finest which became so definitive a team-up between Batman and Superman that some of the scenes were incorporated in the animated series' "World's Finest." His latest excursion The Moth is mostly fun but messy.
Rude do make an inventive use of the remaining bikers, but this little twist may have worked better in another issue of the book rather than within the same story.

STEVE: Because personal considerations aside—things which I've never been concerned about—the book was literally a diary of my evolution as a human being, and I believe it was that for Baron, too, even though we tend to have very different ways of thinking about our lives and philosophies.
