Stewart County is a county located in the U.S. state of Georgia.
In the county the population is spread out with 24.90% under the age of 18, 8.00% from 18 to 24, 25.30% from 25 to 44, 23.30% from 45 to 64, and 18.50% who are 65 years of age or older.
The median income for a household in the county is $24,789, and the median income for a family is $29,611.

 New Georgia Encyclopedia: Bryan County
Bryan County, on the Georgia coast just south and west of Savannah, was created from Chatham County by an act of the state legislature on December 19, 1793.
The county was named in honor of Jonathan Bryan, one of the leading colonial settlers in Georgia and a key figure in the colony's movement toward independence and during the Revolutionary War.
In 1937 the Bryan County seat was moved to Pembroke from the earlier county seat at Clyde, in the middle section of the county.

The Cumberland River enters the southeast corner of the county and runs approximately in a northwesterly direction until it reaches a point beyond Dover, when it turns and runs nearly due north and parallel with the Tennessee River, which bounds the western side of the county.
Stewart County was settled principally by North Carolinians, the first of whom came some time about 1795, that State having issued military grants to survivors of the Continental war, which called for large tracts of land lying in this county.
The first settlers found the county infested with Indians, a majority of whom were hostile, and two block-house forts were erected for better protection from the savages.

The county purchased its first fire engine from the U.S. Army Surplus in Fort Stewart, GA, and it was a 1942 Chevrolet with a five hundred-gpm (gallon per minute) pump capacity.
