The Steyr AUGs and USRs have chromed lined cold hammer forged barrels, I don't think you are going to get that in a USA made AUG. Look at ADI in Australia, it took them 2 years and millions of dollars to get their F88 AUG version to function correctly.
I know PJS is known in the gun world as the Steyr AUG guru for parts and repairing Steyr AUGs but it takes more then that to build one.
This is good news for Steyr Mannlicher owners, Steyr company will remain in Austria and the new owner has commited to listen to its customers and give them what they want.

I haven't heard of other steyr users having the same history and depth of probs that the aust military had.
The Steyr has had problems (in Aussie) in regard to a large number of ADs (involving deaths in at least two cases), has problems with scope in wet weather, has had problems with magazines, and numerous other quality problems.
Apparently in comparative trials they were close to selecting the Steyer AUG when Heckler & Koch put a spanner in the works and brought out the G36 causing the SAS to stop and re-apraise their choices.
