Bulgaria captain Stilian Petrov is urging his international team-mates to make a name for themselves at UEFA EURO 2004™ and write a new chapter in the annals of Bulgarian football.
When Petrov burst on to the scene with PFC CSKA Sofia in the late 1990s he was hailed as the future of Bulgarian football by no less a figure than Stoitchkov, tempting then Celtic manager John Barnes to spend €6.5m to secure his services at the start of the 1999/00 season.
Petrov has flourished under the guidance of the present Celtic manager, Martin O'Neill, and while at the age of 24, he is seen as Bulgaria's biggest threat, he is keen to emphasise the strength within Plamen Markov's squad.

NICK COLGAN today revealed how a shifty look from Stilian Petrov was sufficient to keep Celtic top of the Premierleague table today, his solitary strike enough to leave Hibs with nothing to show for a superb battling performance against the champions.
The Irish goalkeeper disclosed Petrov had "given me the eye", his glance suggesting he was about to drill his shot across Colgan’s body in an attempt to find the far corner of the net.
Petrov’s strike was cruel on Hibs who had matched Celtic for long spells of a match which, while lacking in the goals frenzy which hit the top flight last night was, nevertheless, intriguing.

The Scotsman - Sport - Petrov is 'irreplaceable', says Strachan
WHILE the likelihood of Stilian Petrov remaining as a Celtic player beyond the summer of 2007 is becoming increasingly remote, Gordon Strachan yesterday disputed any suggestion that the club would seek to cash in on their prize asset during the intervening months.
The Celtic manager, who has seen talks aimed at extending Petrov's stay in Glasgow stall over the past few weeks, has stated his simple belief that the cost of replacing the Bulgarian midfielder would far outweigh any transfer fee his club could recoup for the 26-year-old.
Strachan's understanding and reading of the situation is clearly a result of personal history, given that the manager faced a similar problem to Petrov, albeit in the pre-Bosman era, when he ultimately decided it was time to leave the all-conquering Aberdeen team of the early 1980s.

I asked before the January window if I could do anything for Stilian and was told in no uncertain terms by Peter Lawwell that he was going nowhere and, in fact, that Celtic were hoping to have him sign a new contract.
McGill believes the implication that he unsettled Petrov to be a damage limitation exercise by Celtic in a bid to appease their supporters but refutes suggestions that his relationship with Lawwell and other members of the Parkhead hierarchy have been affected.
