		According to Michael Meeropol, his father was prouder of “Strange Fruit” than “of all the things he ever did.” He often played the song for his father when he was an Alzheimer’s patient in a nursing home before his death in 1986.
		“What’s remarkable about Meeropol was his ability to reach beyond Jewish suffering, because let’s not forget he wrote the song just as the Holocaust was getting underway in 1938,” Katz said.
		He discovered that “Lewis Allan” was a combination of the names Meeropol and his wife had chosen for their two stillborn sons.

	Abel Meeropol - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		The American writer Abel Meeropol (1903 - 1986) is best known under his pseudonym Lewis Allan, under which he wrote the anti-lynching song "Strange Fruit", famously performed by Billie Holiday.
		Billie Holiday (or rather her ghostwriter) claimed, in Lady Sings the Blues, that she cowrote the music to the song with Meeropol and Sonny White, but this is inaccurate.
		The writer of countless poems and songs, including the Sinatra hit "The House I Live In", Meeropol was also a teacher and ardent, but closeted, Communist.

		Steve had taken to renaming his songs with one-word titles ('Wine' = Beautiful Deceiver, 'Give' = Still Yawning Stillborn etc) and thus 'Syd's Wine', so the theory goes, could be taken to mean that it was a version of 'Wine' on which Syd worked.

	KING CRIMSON Islands reviews
		Islands is a frustrating and very loose concept but Fripp would trim the band down and move toward new territory while trashing away the frustrations of this period of King Crimson which in my mind is stillborn.
		Islands is a very sadness inducing song at first, with it's slow rythym, descending flute playing(or is that another windinstrument?).
		Islands has a jazz flavour running through the haphazard selection of cuts but there is very little focus involved in organising the structures into cohesive pieces that might have made this a more worthwhile album.

		Named for the Misfits song "Hatebreeders," the band headlines its annual Stillborn Festival at the Worcester Palladium tomorrow.
		Not only is he the lungs behind Hatebreed, whose latest album, "The Rise of Brutality," entered the Billboard 200 at No. 30, he's also host of the revived "Headbanger's Ball" on MTV2.

		Meeropol, active in both the Communist Party and the formidable Local 5 of the New York Teachers Union, composed the song in 1935 in response to a lynching photograph he had seen.
		Meeropol registered “Strange Fruit&; under the pseudonym “Lewis Allan,” a conflation of the names of his two biological sons, who were stillborn.
		In retrospect, it seems an ironic tribute, given that Meeropol is perhaps best known today for adopting the sons of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, American Communists who were executed on June 19, 1953, for allegedly supplying atomic bomb plans to the Soviet Union.
