 Green Scissors Stillwater Bridge (Minnesota)
Stillwater Bridge is a proposed nine-lane, 2/3-mile long bridge that would be built across the St. Croix River between Stillwater, Minnesota, and Houlton, Wisconsin, just east of Minneapolis-St. Paul.
The proposed bridge is unnecessary in part because it would be built a mere one mile south of an existing two-lane lift bridge that has 5 to 15 years of useful life left.
The project would still constitute a major intrusion on the river since it would involve cutting into undisturbed bluffs and placing numerous large piers in the river.

A deed dated 1908, which granted a right of way for a bridge to be built across the Stillwater River, stipulated that the conveyance was for the purpose of a public highway.
Fast-forward tao 1998, when pressure on the river had escalated, as had complaints from landowners, who said recreationists were littering, trespassing and abusing their property.
Then, in March of this year, 10 landowners petitioned Stillwater County to abandon the right of way on the north side of the Stillwater River, where the original bridge once crossed.
