Born in 1563 into an age of religious and political strife, English composer and court musician John Dowland has captivated performers and listeners alike with his serene and introspective music since the late 16th century.
It is perhaps inevitable that Sting -- one of today's most internationally acclaimed troubadours -- would be drawn to revisit Dowland's work from a contemporary perspective, some 400 years after the composer's death.
When SONGS FROM THE LABYRINTH was released last October, the CD, Sting's first for the classical label Deutsche Grammophon, debuted at #1 on BILLBOARD's Traditional Classical Chart and then went on to become the top-selling classical record of 2006, according to the magazine's year-end chart.

But, when Sting began writing for his upcoming solo album just before the Police officially split in 1984, he wrote music that was much more influenced by jazz and world music.

I was listening to some shows the other night and was amazed as always at the tone he was able to get out of his frettless.
Sting's main instrument from the age of 18 is a well lovedĀ­ '62 Jazz Bass.
My favourite Sting bass is the orange coloured Fender that he used in the early days with Police (as shown in the Old Grey Whistle Test on the Police DVD and their last Amnesty concert in 86).

As far as I know, he is busy preparing for a tour with A Perfect Circle and probably doing some session work.
I am thinking that what you will get at this Live 8 is a 15-20 minute set of Sting and Dominic Miller on acoustic guitars.
I think the Glarb is correct, a similar performance to Live Aid with Sting and Branford, now we get Sting and Dominic, that's my prediction...
