Torpedo - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Torpedoes are weapons that may be launched from submarines, surface ships, helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft, unmanned naval mines and naval fortresses.
The Bangalore Torpedo, invented in 1912, is a cylindrical explosive device on the end of a pipe used to clear minefields and barbed wire.
In the case of deck or tube launched torpedoes, the diameter of the torpedo is obviously a key factor in determining the suitability of a particular torpedo to a tube or launcher, similar to the caliber of the gun.

The round stingray is grayish brown, either plain, mottled, or spotted with dark blotches, on the dorsal surface, fading to a pale yellow, orange, or white underside.
Adult round stingrays feed primarily on benthic invertebrates such as stomatopods, amphipods, shrimp, and portunid crabs, and to a smaller extent, on polychaete worms and small fishes.
Stingrays are aptly named for the venomous serrated spine located on the tail, with the round stingray being no different.

Stingray was at Manila on 7 December when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, and immediately put to sea on her first war patrol.
Although Stingray's fifth war patrol, in the vicinity of the Solomon Islands, and sixth war patrol, conducted in the Marshall Islands, were unproductive, during the seventh, the submarine torpedoed and sank the cargo ship Tamon Maru.
Stingray carried out two special missions in the Philippine Islands during her fourteenth and fifteenth war patrols; and, on 11 January 1945, she put to sea on her sixteenth and final war patrol.

 BHARAT RAKSHAK MONITOR: Volume 3(4)
The Torpedo is one of the oldest weapons in the Naval Inventory,Having been invented over 130 years ago, But at the same time it remains one of the deadliest anti-ship and anti-submarine weapon,It is far more lethal to submarines and surface ship than any other conventional weapon.
Torpedoes fall in two main categories: Heavy Weights that are mainly confined to submarines (with a few notable exception) and Light Weights that are used both as offensive weapons in anti-submarine warfare or as defensive anti-submarine weapons by surface warship.
The Stingray was intended to have a Sceps plant as well, but this was cancelled in 1991 and it runs on a sea water battery. The Swedish Tp 45 and Tp 46 weapons are driven by a three-speed electric motor, whereas Eurotrop’s MU 90 Impact uses a variable speed motor designed by STN Atlas Elektronik.

 Stingray biology
The Stingray is any of a class of cartilaginous marine animals of the subclass Elasmobranchii, orders Myliobatiformes (rays) or Rajiformes (skates), found in both salt- and fresh-coastal waters, as well as some rivers, around the world.
Stingrays do not "attack" aggressively, or even actively defend themselves - when threatened their primary reaction is to swim away.
Stingrays are not normally visible to swimmers, but divers and snorkellers may find them in shallow sandy waters, more so when the water is unseasonably warm.

This torpedo was still in use as late as 1982 when three of them were used during the Falklands War to sink the Argentine cruiser Belgrano.
This torpedo depends heavily on data provided by the firing submarine, but the torpedo tended to dip and break the guidance wires during launch.
Torpedoes built to the new standards were designated as Mod 2, and all 600 existing Mark 24 torpedoes were modified to this standard by 1987.

The most impressive part is that Stingray did it in a half hour while Thunderbirds had a full hour to work its magic.
The Stingray is a submarine with plenty of oomph and defensive abilities, which it needs since there are all kinds of angry green men in large cities under the sea, green men who are bent on destroying...
There's a little island the Stingray almost always cruises past for no apparent reason, and on a cliff on that island is a little house occupied by a spy for the bad green men.

The Madcap torpedo served as the main submarine armament in both the early RDF and Southern Cross Navies.
The REF Air Force procured an air launched version of the Madcap torpedo for use by its Space Kitchen anti-submarine planes, as the standard Terran air dropped ASW torpedo, the Stingray, could not be expected to be effective against such craft as the Prometheus.
However, the Space Kitchen was never used in its anti-submarine role due to a lack of targets, and thus the mod 9 Madcap, which was a standard mod 8 equipped with a parachute and hardpoint connections, was never fired in anger.

Stingray, assigned to the Atlantic Torpedo Fleet and later the Atlantic Submarine Flotilla, cruised east coast waters until 20 May 1913, when she cleared Norfolk, Va., for 6 months of operations from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
In December she reported at Cristobal, C.Z., and began an operating schedule of torpedo practice, exploration of anchorages, and harbor defense duty at ports of the Canal Zone.

Using Phoenixius' trimarine hull technology and various new stealth and offensive capabilities, this battleship is a force to be reckoned with.
To improve its stealth characteristics, the engines are exhausted under the outriggers, and various sections of the ship have been designed to reflect radar radiation in all directions, reducing its radar signature.
Its weapons are concealed within the hull of this ship, which incidentally has two inner hulls to minimise torpedo damage, and so detection of its hidden idetity is extremley difficult.
