Insomniac (album) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Insomniac is Green Day's fourth album and it was released in 1995 on the Reprise Records record label.
The collage on the album cover art contains an image (the dentist) that was originally used in a collage featured in the inside cover art of Dead Kennedys' album Plastic Surgery Disasters.
Including the hidden skull, there are three skulls on the entire album cover and back; one for each member of Green Day.

 Wessex Scene Online
This new record is a lot more accessible and melodic than previous albums, and rather than pursuing a path of sullen introspection, this time Aidan and Malcolm seem almost positive, demonstrating an optimism lacking in their previous recordings.
The only really negative thing I could say about this album is that it is only 35 minutes long, and does not really contain a lot of expansion on the complexity of their last record.
A labour of love, the album was written and recorded largely by front man Davey Macmanus himself, describing the recording process as ‘six months of killing myself every day’ and likening the writing process to answering mathematical equations.

It was the band's second album, 1983's Hootenanny, that first garnered the band attention and helped build their fan base.
The Replacements' first major-label album, Tim, was scheduled to be produced by Westerberg's idol, Alex Chilton, but the sessions fell through; the album was produced by former Ramone Tommy Erdelyi.
Neither the tour nor the album were successful, and the Replacements quietly disbanded in the summer of 1991.

The album's thematic and musical heart is Let's Roll, written from the perspective of the passengers who rebelled against the hijackers on Flight 93.
He also tried to release an album with Pearl Jam which was greatly anticipated but because of legal challenges, he was forced to keep them off the cover and the release fell flat.
I personally give this album a bomb and should be taken off the record shelves because it's embarrassing for the career of Neil Young.

For those who are familiar with the band's later releases, it is obvious that at heart, they were just a rock band with one of the greatest pop-songwriters of the 80's as frontman.
The rest of the album is pretty standard hardcore, but the 'Mats distinctive smirk and energy makes it more enjoyable and lighthearted than most hardcore bands ever got.
This album is often dismissed as immature, un-refined musically, and unrepresentative of the genious of band's later efforts.

Albums of the artist singer songer: L7 - album albums songs work works
The self-titled debut album by L7 may not be their best work but I have heard much worse music by other artists/bands than this album.
Since the band was on their own dollar, the album was recorded in their rehearsal space using first or second takes, which gives the album a raw, spontaneous feel like their early masterpiece SMELL THE MAGIC but the sound here is completely flat and lacks the crunch that the band was so famous for.
A year later, L7 were recording their next album when singer/guitarist Suzi Gardner, tired of years of life on the road, decided to leave the band, ending their 15-year run.

Ground and Sky review - Frank Zappa - Apostrophe(')
Maybe because, judging by the huge number of musicians who played at one point or another on this disc, the album was probably constructed from tracks that came out of a bunch of different projects that Zappa was working on.
The final track, "Stink Foot" (a concert favorite) is an oddball rocker with lyrics about a man who couldn't get his boots off for months on end and became afflicted with stink foot.
"Stink Foot" tells us that the answer should be "easy to see," since "the crux of the biscuit is the apostrophe." Zappa himself never elaborated, though I have heard a theory that on a variety of Gaine's dog biscuits, the apostrophe in the brand logo is located directly at the center.

From the amazing (but too short) instrumental that opens the album, to the equally amazing, but more disturbing instrumental that ends this CD, this album is packed with pop songs such as "Burn Baby Burn" to the strong pathos of "Firefall".
It's a concept album with probably the most clear concept but the purpose is unclear.
Interesting idea for an album, i.e to show that the Bible isn't all love and sweetness, but that there is a huge amount of cruelty and evil and darkness in it too.

Sure enough, the album jars me into a state of submission, falling subservient to it's power.
The first tune "Comin' after you" comes on and I'm presented with a blues tinged medium tempo shuffle with tasty rhythm guitar counter lines and Guitar Julies thick vocals threatening to strike down her old love.
The straight on, slow shuffling "Pleased to meet you" and the ultimately fast swinging "Stink Bomb!" are a few examples.

There’s not a damn thing wrong with writing an album that clocks in at over an hour long, as long as every minute of said album has something to say, whether it be mellow, intense, or just flat-out rocking for the hell of it.
The first half of the album isn’t as strong as the second half, and again, this is where the daunting length is a bit of a detriment.
The guitar sound is immaculate, the drums are locked down tight and have a nice snap and crack to their tone, and the bass sounds warm and fuzzy like a bearskin rug in front of a roaring fireplace.
