At-A-Glance Film Reviews: Stir Crazy (1980)
One of Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor's funniest comedies, this prison film, directed by Sidney Poitier, is often riotous, yet still manages to build to an intriguing and suspenseful finale.
At times, one can't help feeling the story is a set-up for Wilder and Pryor to ham it up, but that's part of the fun.
Many of the scenes were improvised as they were being filmed -- the infamous "we're bad" scene is one.

Suburb - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The suburb of Mount Prospect, IL was featured in the The Blues Brothers film: Elwood bought his car from the Mount Prospect Police Auction.
The term suburbia is frequently used to encapsulate the concept of suburbs as oddly picturesque slices of tract-home nuclear family.
The play was made into a low-budget, independent film in 1997, with Richard Linklater at the directorial helm and featured up-and-coming actors Steve Zahn, Parker Posey, Ajay Naidu, and Giovanni Ribisi in lead roles.

Everyone thinks he is going crazy except for his son who tells him not to be afraid.
Once the film examines the mystery of this girl, "Stir of Echoes" never truly builds on the psychological layers of Tom's character to see how this might affect him.
There is still a lot to savor in "Stir of Echoes." Kevin Bacon projects anxiety and fear in a nicely balanced performance - his cocky, tense behavior is well-modulated but he could have done so much more with an in-depth script.

During Sidney’s years in the film industry, fls gained more social acceptance and part of it is due to the types of films that Sidney himself starred in and directed.
Films such as A Piece of the Action are the types of films that have helped fls become more socially accepted among a white society and audience due to their humor and emotional characters.
This film does not bring up very many ethical or social issues but is instead saturated with humor and is why it is, “the kind of comedy that studios wanted to market”.

 STIR OF ECHOES
We are taken deeper into the darkness, and the craziness, and the fear, and then, we are brought out again with a realization that what we normally fear because it is unexplainable and uncontrollable, we really have no reason to fear.
Sixth Sense and Stir of Echoes, the two far more powerful movies, portray men being given the challenge of dealing with and comprehending the paranormal while the women are either skeptics or obstacles in their quest.
In addition, in Sixth Sense and Stir of Echoes, not only are the men the ones with the quest of deciphering the unexplained, but they do so with the exclusion of the regular channels of authority like the police or the medical establishment, and without the help of any spiritual authority.

In STIR CRAZY, their best film in my opinion, the two play an actor and a playwright from New York who decide to head out west to look for work.
The plot of "Stir Crazy", though, where Wilder and Pryor are framed for armed robbery and sent to prison, is quite amusing and hilarious, with the right amount of flavor and texture to grab my attention!
STIR CRAZY would not be the last nail in Gene Wilder's film career hammered by Sidney Poitier.

In making this prison film, Poitier has utilised the talents of his cast to portray a slice of life behind bars that, while mostly funny, also has the running undercurrent of sinister intent we have come to associate with this type of vehicle.
While having some strands of political incorrectness by today’s more liberal standard, the film is still one that makes its point of gentle resistance against corrupt authorities rather than violence; one of beauty among the rough diamonds of society and even the simple appreciation of being free in the world.
