Stirling Dale Silliphant (16 January 1918 - 26 April 1996) was a prolific American screenwriter and producer.
Silliphant was especially famous for his involvement in two seminal TV series of the sixties, Route 66 and Naked City.
In fact, Silliphant was quoted as saying that a number of his Naked City scripts were far superior to the script that won him the Oscar for In the Heat of the Night.

The Silent Flute is an unproduced screenplay written by Stirling Silliphant, Bruce Lee, and James Coburn in 1969.
In addition, some dialogue is used in Enter the Dragon, as well as the uncompleted Game of Death.
After Lee's death, the script was rewritten by Stirling Silliphant and Stanley Mann.

Silliphant, whose screenplays included the thrillers The Towering Inferno and The Poseidon Adventure, had been hospitalized for several months with prostate cancer.
He moved to Thailand several years ago, saying that he preferred Asia to the frantic Hollywood scene where he spent much of his earlier life.
