On losing support from the king Christian IV of Denmark Tycho abandoned Ven in 1597 and both Uraniborg and Stjerneborg were destroyed shortly after Tycho's death.
Stjerneborg was the subject of archeological excavations during the 1950s, the result of which was restoration of the observatory.

 Tycho Brahe - Wikipedia

The Inclusional Harmonies of the World
Johannes carefully adjusted the relative positioning of the ecliptic and celestial equator on the giant brass armillary to give the current approximate sky-coordinates of Mars, writing them neatly into his journal though his mind was elsewhere.
Once installed in the largest of Stjerneborg’s subterranean observing amphitheaters with its openable dome, he flipped through his journal till he came to the last entry he had made in the long list of coordinate entries for Mars.
Johannes noticed that Magdalene's subtle beckoning for him to come and join her had ceased and he now heard, in low whispers, the deep resonant voice of Søren, Tycho's stable boy, a simple but strikingly handsome youth who himself had the strength of horses.

 Tycho Brahé Knudstorp 1546
The astronomer used it as a base for building a majestic palace called Uraniborg, which provided an incredibly luxurious setting for apartments decorated with paintings and statues, and all the conveniences required for his position as the kingdom's official astronomer.
A second building, Stjerneborg, known as the castle of the stars, was built in the grounds of the palace and housed the workshops for creating his instruments, storage rooms and printing works for publishing the completed works.
Tycho even set up an alchemical laboratory, which according to the ideas at the time, was intended to link the study of the stars with the study of the metals under their influence.

Through the way he identified himself with Tycho and through the instruments he chose for his observatory, he was able to benefit from Tycho's reputation, but this was an ambiguous legacy almost a century after the observations made at Uraniborg.
Hevelius's rooftop observatory in the city of Danzig was named 'Sternenburg' after Tycho's 'Stjerneborg'.
The instruments at Sternenburg were designed in the manner of those on Hven and were constructed under the close super vision of the astronomer, as Tycho's had been.

 Tycho Brahe (1546-1601)
Consequently, Tycho turned to professional astronomy and with the help of Danish King Frederick II, established his observatories "Uranienburg" (1580) and "Sternenburg" (or Stjerneborg, 1584) on the island Hven, where he performed astrometric measures which were the best in pre-telescopic times.
Results were the discovery that comets are situated in space beyond the Moon, of Lunar variation and acurate planetary pathes in the sky.

 HISTORY
To prevent him from moving abroad, the king Frederik II, gave him the island of Ven in Øresund, from where he observed the stars for 21 years.
On Ven, Tycho constructed a small castle, Uraniborg (the castle of Urania), which had instruments under the roof, as well as an observatory called Stjerneborg (the castle of the Stars).
The original idea was that there should be an observatory just like Stjerneborg at the top, which is why the diameter of the Roundtower and the size of Stjerneborg are exactly the same.

Kepler and Tycho Brahe: the odd couple (December 2002) - Review - PhysicsWeb
It was from his home observatory at Herrevad that he observed the well known nova of 1572, which challenged the Aristotelian doctrine of the immutability of the celestial world.
Later he found lavish favour with King Frederick II of Denmark, who went all out to help him set up an extravagant state-of-the-art observatory at Uraniborg and the subterranean observatory of Stjerneborg on the island of Hven.
However, Tycho fell badly out of grace with King Christian IV - Frederick's successor - and was forced to leave Denmark in disgrace in 1597.
