Genua - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It is in an area called the Swamplands, some distance from the Sto Plains/Ramtops locations of most of the books.
The name Genua is likely based on Genoa, a city in Italy, however Genua bears a striking resemblance to the American South, especially New Orleans.
Genua was most likely established as a far flung colony of the Morporkian Empire, thus explaining why it shares more similarities with Ankh-Morpork/Sto Plains than its immediate neighbours Überwald and Muntab.

The clacks in Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels is a network of semaphore towers stretching along the Sto Plains, into the Ramtops and across the Unnamed Continent to Genua.
The invention was originally made by an artificer called Robert Dearheart, conducting experiments in an abandoned wizard's tower halfway between Ankh-Morpork and Sto Lat.
The basic mechanism he came up with was a two-by-three array of wooden panels, with pulleys that could drop shutters over them, creating a code.

Simon Callan - Unorthodox Potato Church
The fundamental belief system of the church is that if, when you die, you are in possession of a potato, and you are truly sorry for all the wrong deeds that you have done, everything will be "all right".
The church spread quickly amongst the farmers of the Sto plains as they recognised the value of a good potato, and, to quote one believer, "It's better than all those bloody cabbages".
The first split in the church was engendered by the varied accents of the plains, and was over the correct pronunciation of the word potato.

The (unnamed) continent of which the STO PLAINS and the Ramtops are a major feature: this stretches all the way to the Hub and finishes, at least in the area of Ankh-Morpork, at the CIRCLE SEA.
Less than half of it has been covered in the chronicles, and there must be far more land on the far side of the Ramtops.
KLATCH (the continent): this is detailed elsewhere, but here and now we might not be far wrong in thinking of Klatch as the Discworld's Africa, with a collection of 'Mediterranean' countries shading into the large, and more or less unexplored, plains of HERSHEBA and HOWONDALAND.
