The problem with the use of various stock phrases is that they may compromise the clarity and concision of an idea by adding to the complexity of the sentence.
Although the frequency of the phrase was to a lesser extent the other two genres, the ephemera genre followed the trend; the ukephemera corpora had a higher occurrence of the “at the same time as” than the usephemera corpora.
Ten of the 11 occurrences of the phrase could be replaced with a word; however, the word replacement would not add to the meaning or clarity of the sentence in any of the cases.
