Stockport is a town in Greater Manchester, in North West England.
However, economic growth took its toll, and 19th Century philosopher Friedrich Engels wrote in 1844 that Stockport was "renowned as one of the duskiest, smokiest holes in the whole of the industrial area".
Stockport is home to League Two football team Stockport County Football Club, as well as Bramall Hall and the National Trust property of Lyme Park.

Stockport County Football Club are an English football club playing in the Football League Two, after results in the 2004-05 season were so poor as to ensure their relegation from Football League One.
Stockport County were formed in 1883 as Heaton Norris Rovers by members of the Wycliffe Congressional Church, and played their first recorded game in October the next year.
Stockport County won the league and were re-admitted to the Football League for the 1905/06 season.
