Stockton is a peninsula, with the Hunter River at the south-west and the Pacific Ocean at the east.
Stockton was settled almost as soon as the foundation of Newcastle in 1797.
Stockton Beach is a 32km long stretch of beach, in some areas its as much as 1km wide and has sand dunes over 30 meters high.

Stockton is a spit of land fronted by the ocean and backed by the river which comes out at Stockton's south end.
Stockton, or rather the city it's a suburb of, Newcastle, is a major shipping port.

South of Noraville House and Hargraves Beach is Jenny Dixon Beach.
A cycleway heads south alongside Budgewoi Rd. The park is located at the north-eastern corner of Budgewoi Lake and there are good views across to the tip of Toukley Golf Course (but one kilometre away) and south-west to the Wallarah Pt Bridge which separates Budgewoi and Tuggerah Lakes.

Lancer Barracks were built in Parramatta, now a suburb of Sydney between 1818 and 1820 to house the British troops who garrisoned the then colony of New South Wales.
The Governor, Lachlan Macquarie recognised he was building the infrastructure for a future nation and had them built to last, eventually they were occupied by the New South Wales Lancers, becoming an integral part of Australia's Military history, and the history of the Parramatta Community.
