Stoke, or to give it its full name, Stoke-upon-Trent is a town in the City of Stoke-on-Trent, in the ceremonial county of Staffordshire in the United Kingdom.
Stoke itself, despite being the nominal central administrative town, is now far outclassed by its neighbouring town, Hanley; in terms of size, population, shops and business opportunities.
The A500 at Stoke is currently undergoing two years' of work as part of the major A500 Stoke Pathfinder Project which should complete in Summer 2006.

Stoke is known for the development of the famous Potteries loop line, the railway system which once linked the six towns with outlying communities, Stoke City Football Club and famous pottery manufacturer, Spode which has stood in the centre of the town since 1770.
The valley setting of Stoke gave it the early advantage of canal transport and later the main railway station to serve the area.

Stoke striker Ade Akinbiyi has staged a sit-in protest against chairman Gunnar Gislason over his new contract and the direction he feels the club is heading.
