Stoke Mandeville Hospital is a large hospital in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, England, it is one of three hospitals in the Buckinghamshire Hospitals NHS Trust.
The village of Stoke Mandeville was very badly hit by the cholera epidemic that swept across England in the early part of the decade, and so a cholera hospital was established on the parish border between Stoke Mandeville and Aylesbury.
In 1948 the NHS was founded and all operations were moved from the Royal Bucks to Stoke Mandeville, making it the main hospital in Aylesbury.

War memorials in Stoke Mandeville have been transcribed by Peter Quick, and published in a booklet entitled "War Memorials and War Graves: Aylesbury Hundred part two - Town and Environs, Volume 8", available from the Buckinghamshire Genealogical Society.
The second part, 'Mandeville', derives from the family of that name which held the manor in the 13th century.

On May 13th 2000, the new Stoke Mandeville millennium sign was unveiled.
The top panel of the sign depicts the church of St Mary, and in the foreground, an Elizabethan girl, Dorathye Brudenell, whose family were extensive local landowners from 1409 to 1639.
The red-and-gold coat of arms is that of the De Mandevilles and the ducks are Aylesburys –; large, almost geese-sized birds, bred for the table.

Stoke Mandeville is a village to the south of Aylesbury in the county of Buckinghamshire, England.
The suffix Mandeville was first recorded in 1284 when the manor was listed as being in the hands of the powerful Norman de Mandeville family.
The former medieval parish church on the outskirts of the village was condemned in the mid 20th Century and has now been demolished altogether.
