 William and Magdalen Southern of Stokes County, N.C.
John Southern, whether from Middlesex County or elsewhere, descended from one of several Southerns who immigrated to east Virginia or Maryland from England in the seventeenth century, though the founder of the family in America is not identified.
He had enlisted in Buckingham County, Virginia, in 1776, and thus does not appear to have been with the others in the 1774-75 move to North Carolina, though it is possible he was with them and returned to Virginia to enlist at the beginning of the war.
A study of Surry County tax lists (Stokes County after 1789), which survive for the years 1775, 1780, and from 1782 onward, suggest the evolution of land occupation and purchase by William Southern and his sons as they reached manhood.

It is in the north central section of the State and is bounded by Rockingham, Forsyth and Surry counties and the state of Virginia.
When Stokes was taken from Surry the old courthouse was ordered to be sold, and the proceeds were to be equally divided between Surry and Stokes and applied towards the erection of new courthouses.
The act establishing Forsyth county directed that the first court of Stokes after the passage of the act be held at Germantown, at which time the justices were to determine a location for the new courthouse and jail.

Joseph was prominent in Rockingham County politics and served as its representative in the North Carolina state legislature in 1804, 1810 and 1811.
She was named as an heir of an uncle, Reuben Abney, in an 1805 Halifax County probate case, and she and Joseph were involved in another court case in 1817 as a follow-up to the 1805 estate settlement.
Nancy and Eliza were still in Stokes County in 1830, where they were listed with their own families, but the author has found no record of Nancy or the Joseph Lasley family after 1830..

The first Moravian Church record found so far containing the name Wageman (or Wagemann) in North Carolina was in Stokes County; mention was made of a "young Wagemann" from Bethabara as having been received into the Moravian Church choir for boys in Salem in 1772.
Johann George Wageman died 22 December, 1800 in Stokes County, North Carolina at the age of forty.

Not much is known about George and Johanna, except that they lived on Duck Creek in Kent County, Delaware in the early 1700's.
