Stone County (LST-1141) was laid down on 22 January 1945 by the Chicago Bridge and Iron Co., Seneca, 111.; launched on 18 April; sponsored by Miss Gwendolyn K. Bartels; and commissioned on 9 May 1945, Lt. E.
Stone County was deployed with the 7th Fleet again from 23 April to 9 December 1959.
Stone County operated in the Hawaii area again from the fall of 1963 to January 1964 when she returned to the California coast.

Dutchess County Executive William R. Steinhaus announced today the completion of the County’s acquisition of a conservation easement on the Stone Church Property of Dover, in partnership with the Town of Dover.
Chairman of the Dutchess County Legislature, Bradford Kendall, R-Dover/UnionVale haled the acquisition of the property as a “wonderful opportunity for Dutchess County.” Kendall went on to state, “The preservation of this property is what was envisioned by the Friends of Stone Church as well as Dover Town officials.
The County Executive initiated the program in 1999 and has committed $7 million to its advancement, with the goal of protecting at least 10,000 acres of resources by 2010.

To cut a section of the stone, a steam-powered (later electric) cutting machine called a "channeler" or "wardler" with five drill bits was driven back and forth on a track laid on the stone.
When the section of stone was loose, a steel derrick laid it over onto a bed of soft stone, which cushioned the fall.
The stonecutters then used a straight edge to mark off the stone and the stone was split further to reach the size for a given order.

The transfer is part of an agreement signed by Duncan and the SCA in April 1996 which settled a lawsuit brought by the association involving operation of the County composting facility in Dickerson.
The suit, filed in 1994, alleged that the County, by adding improvements to and expanding the operations of the composting facility without benefit of public hearing, had violated the terms of a 1981 agreement which had imposed conditions on the use of the compost site.
Among the conditions of the settlement, the County agreed to lease approximately 70 acres adjoining the compost facility to the SCA and renovate the stone house for residential use.
