The Stone Pine (Pinus pinea; family (A family of Pinaceae) Pinaceae) is a species of (A coniferous tree) pine native of the north (The largest inland sea; between Europe and Africa and Asia) Mediterranean coast, primarily the (A peninsula in southwestern Europe) Iberian Peninsula.
The seeds ((Edible seed of any of several nut pines especially some pinons of southwestern North America) pine nuts, piñones or pinoli) are large, 2 cm long, pale brown with a powdery fl coating which rubs off easily, and have a rudimantary 5 mm wing which falls off very easily.
Small specimens are grown in large planters or are used for (A dwarfed ornamental tree or shrub grown in a tray or shallow pot) Bonsai, and year-old seedlings are also widely sold as 20-30 cm tall table-top (An ornamented evergreen used as a Christmas decoration) christmas trees.
