Stoneage Romeos - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Stoneage Romeos was the Hoodoo Gurus' first album and saw them receive record sales to complement their already strong reputation for live performances.
In 2005, a tribute album was released by Shock Records named 'Stoneage Cameos', which included covers by major Australian rock bands.
The feature race of the night was called 'The Stoneage Cameo Cup'.

 Hoodoo Gurus Album Reviews
Stoneage Romeos is a 37 minute-trip of melody and energy, feels like a summation of two decades of pop music and ends up being an unforgettable tribute to the abundant vigour all good rock music conjures up.
The band would follow up Stoneage Romeos with several terrific albums (and in 2004, they released their first album since 1996's Blue Cave), but none of them managed to combine the illusion of spontaneity with melody and energy in such an exciting way again.
When they released Stoneage Romeos, they not only released the (as far as I know - prove me wrong) best debut album in the history of Australian rock 'n' roll, but also an album that was so clever, witty, energetic and cool it made you wonder why these guys weren't HUGE all over the world.

 Hoodoo Gurus
The Hoodoo Gurus' classic debut album Stoneage Romeos lovingly interpreted by… the Wrights …the Living End… Spiderbait… Grinspoon….
It was STONEAGE ROMEOS: eleven exquisitely turned tunes about teenage hearts in deadly peril, spiced with serious thwack and twang and a healthy dose of wry sci-fi intrigue.
Hence STONEAGE CAMEOS, a labour of love hatched in the hearts of Executive Producers Jason Evans and Wally Meanie in the autumn of 2005.

Had this French outfit nailed as a slavish Radio Birdman/Detroit tribute band from the grim looks on the bands' faces on the cover and tunes ("Do the Pop", "Like a Curse", "Dangerous") on the back.
Stoneage Romeos (no prizes for guessing from where THAT name sprung) are apparently direct descendants of the Gangbangers, who hail from France's soputh-east.
Not a bad thing when it leaves you wanting more so brevity is almost a winner on that level.

'Stoneage Cameos' will put attention back onto the Hoodoo Gurus (although Faulkner plays down its significance) thanks to bands like The Wrights, The Living End, The Spazzy's, The Drones and cheekily the Persian Rugs covering the songs, together with the b-sides associated with the Gurus debut album.
He was naturally very flattered at the idea of a Hoodoo Gurus tribute, especially one that he appears on twice, both singing backing vocals for The Wrights doing '(Let's All) Turn On' and with his "other band" The Persian Rugs doing 'Be My Guru'.
