Animation article - Animation film claymation stop motion persistence vision computer animation - What-Means.com
Animation refers to the process in which each frame of a film or movie is produced individually, whether generated as a computer graphic, or by photographing a drawn image, or by repeatedly making small changes to a model (see claymation and stop motion), and then photographing the result.
The first animated cartoon was from Frenchman Émile Reynaud, who created praxynoscope, animation system of 12 pictures, and films of about 500~600 pictures, projected on its own théatre optique, system near from modern film projector, at Musée Grévin in Paris, France, the october 28, 1892.
Because animation is very time-consuming and often very expensive to produce, the majority of animation for TV and movies comes from professional animation studios.

 FAQ
Stop Motion Animation uses the same principles as drawn or cel animation (cartoons).......a movie camera is used like a still camera.....there are 24 different drawings (which equals one second of movement) and the movie camera shoots one frame (which is one picture) of film for each drawing (in proper sequence).
Stop motion is used in all sorts of ways from creatures/aliens or fantasy puppet characters.....to cartoonish or stylized puppets.
A person (the animator) moves the puppet a little bit, then the camera shoots one still picture of the puppet, the animator moves the puppet again.....another still picture is taken.....this is continually done until you get hundreds of still pictures which were taken by the movie camera.

 Stop motion
Stop motion is an animation technique which makes things that are static appear to be moving.
Nowadays the almost universal use of computer generated imagery has effectively rendered stop motion obsolete as a serious special effects tool, although it is still widely used on children's programming, commercials, and the occasional comic film.
Another variation on stop motion is go motion, first used on the film Dragonslayer, which involves moving the model slightly during each exposure to produce a more realistic motion blurring effect.

the mighty OMNIVORE: Stop Motion vs Real Time
It struck me that a robotized stop-motion would be something different: moving to regular poses when stop motion was required, and also able to move on a precise trajectory and with precise timing to allow capture of blurred motion images, it wouldn’t be aimed at live interaction, but at loosening up the stop-motion animation process.
Their work makes references to animators that I also admire: The Brothers Quay and Svankmajer in particular, and I began to wonder if this one-take does it approach was universal among stop motion animators.
On the same visit, we looked at some go-motion footage, where the stop motion is based on frames shot of a moving, as opposed to still subject.

Mike Jittlov is the creator of many inventive movies using stop-motion animation, also known as pixilation.
In 1978, Jittlov co-starred on Disney's two-hour TV extravaganza, Mickey's 50th with the short film Mouse Mania, creating and animating the first stop-motion Mickey Mouse, along with 1,000 other Disney toys marching around a psychiatrist's office (The short is now featured on the Disney DVD Mickey Mouse in Living Color, Volume Two).
After that, Jittlov bought a 16mm movie camera, designed a multi-plane animation system for $200, and began a career as a professional dream-spinner.

Harryhausen also came up with a split-screen process that allowed the stop motion models to be placed in scenes with real buildings and people.
Motion pictures are usually projected at 24 frames a second and video at 30 frames a second (although this comes in the form of two interlaced half frames every 60th of a second).
Motion picture cameras record by exposing frames (24 a second) one after another so that movement, like a person walking down a street, is captured.

Any animator looking for a book to help them improve their craft knows that most books on animation usually fall short in so many ways, it's easy to think it's impossible to write a comprehensive and accurate book on the subject (don't even get me started about the abysmal state of computer character animation books).
Williams is the penultimate animator's animator and he tells it like it is. Williams systematically demystifies virtually every aspect of animation from simple walk cycles, to breaking joints to dialogue and acting.
Williams had Disney animator Art Babbitt and Warner great Ken Harris working in his studio in London and training a new generation of animators in the techniques of good character animation, which was not taught at the time in any school or considered an art form.

Tippett then rolled a video montage of examples in the history of animation, which included chapter stops during which he contextualized the material.
Tippett explained that one of his pet peeves is that the large-scale mass-market animation in the U.S. is virtually always cute, involving anthropomorphic animals and so forth.
This sequence led naturally into his presentation of computer-generated animation, featuring clips of the Genesis planet proposal from Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, the stained-glass knight from Young Sherlock Holmes, the water tentacle from The Abyss, and the T-1000 from Terminator 2.

At Last, Foam Puppet Fabrication Explained!
While these two animation disciplines require talent and drive to achieve successful animation, stop-motion is unique in the animation field in that it encompasses a number of disciplines to achieve a final end.
This principle of creature design plus character animation is, in some ways, rather similar to the film music principle, which states that if, for example, two lovers are kissing, then coupling that image with romantic music will heighten the affectation (emotion) of the scene.
While it certainly isn't necessary for a single individual to master all of these disciplines (and there are few stop-motion animators who have), there is no reason why one cannot attempt to do so, and have fun in the process.
