In October of 1792 the old District of Lunenburg (1788-1792) was renamed the Eastern District and included the present counties of Stormont, Dundas, Glengarry, Prescott, Russell, Leeds, Grenville and Carleton.
As of January 1850 all Districts were abolished and the Eastern District became the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry and remain the United Counties to this day.
As of January 1998, Cornwall Township and Osnabruck Township were amalgamated into South Stormont Township; Roxborough Township, Finch Township and the Village of Finch were amalgamated into North Stormont Township.

The regiment of Glengarry Light Infantry Fencibles was raised in 1811-12 largely from among the Highland settlers of this region, many of whom had served previously in Europe with the Glengarry (British Highland) Fencibles.
First elected to represent Glengarry in the legislature of Canada in 1841, he became one of the leaders of the Reform party and served in several ministries prior to Confederation in 1867.
Fraser became Colonel of the 1st Regiment, Glengarry Militia, in 1822 and served under Sir John Colborne in Lower Canada during the Rebellion of 1837-38.

Organized on January 9, 1833 as a volunteer department, the Dundas (Ontario) Fire Department has grown through the years becoming a paid, well-equipped department.
Anecdotes are told of the members of the department, many pictures show the equipment, firefighters and major fires.
An interesting fact is that the author of the book, Fire Chief Colin Johnson, was a firefighter for 31 years (including 10 years in Great Britain), prior to his appointment as the Dundas chief.

The NDP is almost invisible, but the greens practically own the North Dundas end of the riding.
I seriously can see the Greens benefitting from this though: Manley launched Bell Sympatico, and except for the turncoats at Videotron, most ISPs that provide broadband don't want to lose one of the main reasons people actually subscribe to it, and Manley, although now an organic farmer, could really hammer this issue.
