Stormwatch (comics) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Stormwatch is a fictional United Nations-sponsored superhero team in the Wildstorm Universe.
It was during this period that Ellis used Stormwatch to introduce the concept of the Bleed, a space between parallel universes which features heavily in Planetary and other comics set in the Wildstorm universe.
The series later became a satire of politics and comic books, with segments where the team replaces a Strom Thurmond/Jesse Helms-like Senator with a shape-shifter, and a storyline where a Captain America-analog (revealed to be the reincarnation of George Washington) tries to overthrow the American government.

I also really appreciated that Wright is taking adage that "every issue is someone's first" to heart; he made it very easy for a new reader to just jump into the story, without having to stop for lengthy speeches involving exposition that would bring everything grinding to a halt.

Former StormWatch leader Jackson King’s new plan involves a series of Post Human Division groups, one in each major city and partnering with local law enforcement, to best deal with super-powered outbreaks and the aftermath, forming a team of specialists who are the experts of their field.
The characters themselves have real potential as well, from the former super-villain moll whose lure to join StormWatch is to finally be taken seriously as the extremely intelligent woman that she is, to the perfectly ordinary cop who’s merely able to think fast enough on his feet that he can survive against super-powered attacks.
StormWatch: Post Human Division #1 is the latest in a series of new launches for the WildStorm imprint, and is in many ways the most intriguing.

PIXELSURGEON | Reviews | Books | The Authority
The Authority is one of those comic book gems that has found its way to the audience by carefully dropping clues and telling a big story over a period of years, letting the pieces unravel slowly building up to a certain climax.
One of these comics was Stormwatch, which had an interesting premise: Stormwatch is a United Nations sanctioned team of super humans (top notch space station orbiting the earth included) that does what the U.N. dictates them and fight the evil-doers of the world.
In addition to his indie comics, Ellis still works with Wildstorm, under the Homage Comics imprint on creator-owned books, Quitely has had a highly successful run on the X-Men machine; and Millar and Hitch are the team behind The Ultimates, which is basically the Marvel Comics' Avengers version of The Authority.

Ellis, a 29-year old Englishman, has been on the comics scene for a number of years but is just now beginning to make a significant mark in the industry.
With a clear, literate voice that is rare in comics today, Ellis tells the stories that only someone living outside the U.S. could tell, stories that reveal how stupid, petty and downright thuggish America can be when looked at in the context of the entire world.

This was not a "superbattle to end all superbattles" between two teams of over-muscled toughs punching it out on a city street amongst a crowd of terrified civilians, it was a military action, ruthlessly carried out by professionals against violent terrorists using a team of elite super-dilettantes as the weapon to smite the terrorists.

Part of the problem with trying to create a humor comic, when you think about it, is that both the writing and the art need to be equally funny.
Each half of the equation normally has to support each other in a comic to begin with, but it’s doubly true with comedy; the potential difference in humor levels between the writing and the art can ruin a joke with only half of the punch line really being delivered.
In an ongoing serial comic, it’s easy for creators to take the easy route, keeping the status quo from one installment to the next and no real lasting effects shaking out.

I have been told that the initial Stormwatch comics were not especially well done, but I doubt that anyone will be disappointed with the graphic novels (A Finer World and Change or Die) because they are compendiums of later issues of Stormwatch.

Locus Online: Claude Lalumière on Warren Ellis
In 1996, his writing started to appear in comics from several companies, but landing script duties for Wildstorm's Stormwatch would prove to be a career landmark, although we would have to wait for 1998-99 to see the spectacular outcome.
Initially, Stormwatch was a rather generic superhero title from the Wildstorm studio; under Ellis's stewardship it began to explore the consequences of having covert government agencies creating secret posthuman task forces.
Currently, Ellis is involved in various multimedia projects, working on a number of SF comics, writing a science-fiction prose novel due to be published in 2005 from HarperCollins, and scripting superhero stories for Marvel's Ultimate imprint.
