If the ally is a member of a privileged group, it is essential that she or he also strives for clarity about the impact of privileges on her or his life.
Allies believe that it is in their interest to be allies and are able to talk about why this is the case.
Allies with privilege are responsible for sharing the lead with people of color in changing the organization and hold greater responsibility for seeing changes through to their conclusion.

There has been incorrect likening of STRAIGHT to the group Allies; however, there is a distinct difference between STRAIGHT and Allies.
Allies supports the lesbian, gay and bisexual community's sexual behavior and STRAIGHT does not.
If for any reason STRAIGHT is denied recognition by the University, we will not just go away, because the University will essentially be saying that upon admission to Penn State you must endorse homosexuality.

Allies is a Mount student club for lesbian, gay, and bisexual students and their straight allies.
Allies exists as a response to this call for "understanding and pastoral care." Allies' charter as a student club received approval from the Board of Trustees in 1999, is housed within Campus Ministry, and functions within the Archdiocese of Baltimore, with a Catholic priest as its club moderator.
Allies also works to uphold the mission of Mount Saint Mary's University, in particular affirming "the values and beliefs central to the Catholic vision of the person and society." That vision is that all people are beloved children made in the image of God (Gen 1:26-27).
