Mathlab - N Equal Parts by Construction   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-30)
The activities of this lab are to have teams of students determine, say, precisely 1/5 of a given straight line segment, using straightedge and compass construction; thus establishing that the segment can be divided into 5 equal parts.
At, say, the left endpoint of the segment, a line divided into exactly 5 equal parts is drawn (it could be placed perpendicularly, but this is not necessary).
Finally, lines parallel to this line are constructed through the remaining four dividing marks of the second line.

Manifold - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The circle is the simplest example of a topological manifold after a line.
Note that it is possible to construct a circle by "gluing" together a single piece of the line; this does not produce a chart, since a portion of the circle will be mapped to both "glued" regions at once.
They need not be closed; thus a line segment without its ends is a manifold.

 Segments in 3D-Space ( d3_segment )
segment is a directed straight line segment in three-dimensional space, i.e., a straight line segment [p, q] connecting two points
A segment is called trivial if its source is equal to its target.
If s is not trivial, we use line(s) to denote the straight line containing s.

 Straight Bets (& Buying Points)
A straight bet is very simply one wager on the outcome of a single event or game as determined by a known point spread, money line (ML), run line, Total or Puck (Canadian) Line.
A $100 wager on the money line on the Dolphins would pay you $200 if they win the game outright and, wagering on the point spread means they could lose the game by 4 points or less and you would still win that wager.
When a line is at standard odds of -110, there is a 10% juice.

The pointlist argument is a series of points that are connected by a line.
If the closed argument is true an additional line segment is drawn between the first and last points.

 Introduction
An edge of a (polygonal, or many sided) tile is a single straight line segment.
An edge-to-edge tiling is one in which all edges of any two tiles that meet do so along the entire lengths of the two edges.
The tiling will remain unchanged if it is reflected about a line of mirror symmetry.

can be seen to define a line: it's the perpendicular bisector of the line segment joining the two points z = -1/2 and z = i (draw a simple diagram and think about it).
Now this straight line bisects the line segment AND is perpendicular to the line segment.
That is, it is the straight line that is the perpendicular bisector of the line segment joining the points z = z1 and z = z2.

A Robust and Efficient Implementation of a Sweep Line Algorithm for the Straight Line Segment Intersection Problem - ...   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-30)
The program computes the planar graph G induced by a set S of straight line segments.
The nodes of G are all endpoints and all proper intersection points of segments in S. The edges of G are the maximal relatively open subsegments of segments in S that contain no node of G. The algorithm runs in time O((n + s) log n) where...

To draw a straight line segment, move the mouse and click where you want to end the straight line segment; CorelDRAW 11 automatically creates a straight line between the two points.
To draw a freehand line segment, drag the mouse along the path you want the line segment to follow, and click where you want to end the line segment.
You can continue drawing straight and curved line segments, or you can finish the line at any time with a double-click.

 The Midpoint Formula
For instance, you might need to find a line that bisects (divides into equal halves) a given line segment.
This is a multi-part problem, and is actually typical of problems you will probably encounter at some point when you're learning about straight lines.
The perpendicular slope (for my perpendicular bisector) is the negative reciprocal of the slope of the line segment.

Diameter - Facts, Information, and Encyclopedia Reference article
For the authentication, authorisation, and accounting protocol, see DIAMETER.
In geometry, a diameter (Greek words diairo = divide and metro = measure) of a circle is any straight line segment that passes through the center and whose endpoints are on the circular boundary, or, in more modern usage, the length of such a line segment.
When using the word in the more modern sense, one speaks of the diameter rather than a diameter, because all diameters of a circle have the same length.
