The film is a bit of a send up of "Strangers On A Train", but the way it goes about it's work generally works very well, but sometimes comes across as rather flat - neither unfunny or funny - that in-between place that doesn't make for a particularly memorable picture.
A comedy, and a very dialogue-driven one, the majority of the film is mono in nature and doesn't really expand outwards beyond that with the exception of the score.

Wimbledon film review, In Film Australia
Easily the film's standout achievement is its photography of tennis, a sport mostly ignored by cinema over the years (although immortalized by Hitchcock's Strangers on a Train, where the court became a climatic test of endurance for its hero).
The pace propelling Wimbledon's game is too often way too casual; the sentiment of the film's resolution is frustratingly over-the-top and Loncraine is much too complacent with his formula.
On the flip side their are some nifty examples of internal narration (aka, a sweat-pouring Bettany freaking out to the audience at the base line), a funky opening credit scene and the film's moments of tennis mayhem are fast, intense and buzzing with action.
