Today the College is a multi-professional institution, no longer engaged solely in the education of teachers.
All College courses lead to a qualification validated and awarded by Queen's.
As Stranmillis is a University college, all its students are also enrolled at Queen's and have access to the usual university facilities just a short walk from the College, which is located in south Belfast.

Stranmillis University College in Belfast has used a Crompton Intellect intelligent lighting system from Cooper Lighting and Security to solve the particular lighting problems it faced when converting a sloping lecture theatre into an open-access computer suite.
This meant that, to achieve a consistent 400 lux at bench level, the luminaires used in the new ceiling would have to have adjustable light outputs the luminaires at the back of the room being much closer to the benches than those at the front of the room.
According to the university's estates manager, John Chapman, energy saving was also a key consideration for the lighting: "We wanted movement detectors so that, if there are no students in the computer suite for 20 minutes, the luminaires would gradually dim down and eventually switch off.

Southeast's exchange program with Stranmillis College is the result of a professional relationship, which began in 1998 when Dr. Phil Parette, Southeast professor of elementary, early and special education, was supervising Southeast student teachers in Wales.
Recently, the two universities were awarded a $204,500 Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE) grant from the U.S. Department of Education to lead a six-university consortium to study at-risk students culturally and socially both in Europe and the United States, Benton said.

The 16 th Wider Horizons Programme of the Irish Colleges of Education (St. Patrick's College, Dublin, Church of Ireland College, Dublin, St. Mary's University College, Belfast, and Stranmillis University College, Belfast) took place in Lowell, Massachussets from 22 June — 1 August.
I nitiated in 1989, this programme involves a group of beginning Irish teachers, from the North and South of Ireland, Catholic and Protestant, living together in the United States whilst being simultaneously engaged in a variety of educational and community projects.
It is hoped, thereby, to increase their own confidence and skills to enable them to work with children around issues of conflict and conflict resolution when they return to Ireland, and to establish lasting cross-border friendship and professional ties between the participants.
