Military strategy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Military strategy was one of a triumvirate of "arts" or "sciences" that govern the conduct of warfare; the others being tactics, the execution of plans and manœuvering of forces in battle, and logistics, the maintenance of an army.
The strategy he formulated was the Schlieffen Plan, defending in the east while concentrating for a decisive victory in the west, after which the Germans would go on to the offensive in the east.
The problem with attrition was that the use of fortified defenses in depth generally required a ratio of ten attackers to one defender for any reasonable chance of victory.

Fabian strategy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Fabian strategy is a military strategy where pitched battles are avoided in favor of wearing down an opponent through a war of attrition.
This strategy derives its name from Quintus Fabius Maximus, the Roman dictator given the thankless task of defeating the great general of Carthage, Hannibal, in southern Italy during the Second Punic War (218-202 BC).
The strategy was in part ruined because of a lack of unity in the command of the Roman army.

Attrition warfare - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Attrition warfare is a strategic concept which states that to win a war, one's enemy must be worn down to the point of collapse by continuous losses in personnel and materiel.
The most well-known example of this strategy was during World War I on the Western Front.
In the sense that attrition warfare represents an attempt to grind down an opponent through superior numbers, it represents the opposite of the usual principles of war, where one attempts to achieve decisive victories through maneuver, concentration of force, surprise, and so forth.

A strategy of attrition would work to switch that relationship so that fewer new people come in, more existing illegals leave the illegal population, and we have an annual decrease.
And none of this means that a new attrition strategy, a downsizing strategy, wouldn't include a significant increase in deportations.
Attrition demands not only incentives to get illegals to deport themselves, and not only efforts to detain people trying to get in, but the corollary of that is not instituting policies that would spark even more illegal immigration.

Above all, Comrade Kautsky has not noticed that his current theory destroys his earlier theory of the "strategy of attrition." At the center of the "strategy of attrition" stands an allusion to the coming Reichstag elections.
In my first reply I tried to show that in reality the "strategy of attrition" amounted to "Nothing-But-Parliamentarianism." Now Comrade Kautsky himself confirms this in elaborating his theories.
A brutal provocation by the police, a massacre at a demonstration could greatly heighten the masses' agitation and sharpen the situation: yet it obviously could not be that "great occasion" which would abruptly overturn the entire economic and political structure of Germany.

Both strategies are linked by some increase in military force or war-fighting capability vis-a-vis an opponent; this increase serves to elevate attrition to annihilation.
Despite the appeal of a strategy of strategic paralysis, one must be aware that a diminishment of any of the four elements critical to its success--especially technology and aerospace control--could have an adverse effect on the strategy (fig.

The ideal strategy for a nation confronted with a strong enemy that occupies all or part of its land is the indirect strategy which was discussed by several military researchers namely Liddel Hart.
What indirect strategy induces is the avoidance of any widespread military confrontation with a militarily strong enemy capable of destroying the opponent`s army, its constituents, and infrastructure.
The indirect strategy is the most appropriate type for the revolutionary strategy which is adopted by forces to liberate their land or work on toppling the system in the country.
