Strathfield was proclaimed on June 2, 1885 by the Governor of NSW, Sir Augustus Loftus, after residents of the Redmyre area petitioned the New South Wales State government.
Homebush Bay Drive bounds the Municipality of Strathfield to the north, Powells Creek, The Boulevarde and Coronation Parade bounds it to the east, Punchbowl Road and Juno Parade form the southern border and Roberts Road, Chullora rail yards, Rookwood Cemetery and the Sydney Olympic Park Rail line bound the Municipality to the west.
For NSW state elections, the Municipality of Strathfield is in the State Electoral District of Strathfield and for Federal elections it is in the electorate of Lowe.

Strathfield said its full year loss could be up to $7.5 million, not including an additional $3 million loss that will be incurred if an alternative payment plan for a receivable owing to Strathfield is accepted by shareholders.

June 1885, Strathfield Municipality was incorporated under the name of Strathfield, replacing the old district name of Redmyre [formerly Redmire].
The sub-division labelled ‘The Strathfield Estate’ also created Woodgreen Rd [later renamed Torrington Avenue] and Nichol Parade to the boundary of Wynne’s Paddock [lot 36 of the Redmire Estate which sub-divided in 1885].
Located near the western end of Strathfield Avenue, the house was tenanted from 1940 until 1957 when it was demolished for further residential sub-division.
