Topic: Strathfillan

The Churches of Glenorchy and Innishail, linked with Strathfillan
The present Parish boundaries are different but just as extensive, being just to the south of Bridge of Orchy to the north, through Glen Orchy and then down the south side of Loch Awe beyond Eredine village, a distance of over 40 miles (on one track roads).
The Parish of Strathfillan is a later creation and takes in part of what was Glenorchy and Innishail.
After 1981 the parish was again enlarged by the addition of that part of the Parish of Kilchrenan and Dalavich that lay on the south side of Loch Awe, including Portsonachan and Eredine.

Strathfillan Community Council   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-19)
The Strathfillan Community Council has endeavoured to become more democratic by defining their objectives in consultation with the people and laying down a policy statement as in the appendix.
However, it is important to be cognisant that community councils operate on a voluntary basis and such a role could conceivably overbumden the individuals with responsibilities.
This is a most important consideration: We in Strathfillan feel strongly that we should receive feedback when we have taken the time and trouble to respond to consultations on for example planning applications.

Clan leaders often took their name from an ancestor noted for some outstanding trait or exploit, and Gregor was quite possibly of royal descent.
He had three sons: Patrick, who held the ancient homeland of Glenorchy and lands of Strathfillan; Ian Dhu, ancestor of the Macgregors of Glenstrae; and Patrick, progenitor of the MacGregors of Brackley, Roro and Glengyle.
Patrick's son Malcolm lost the Strathfillan lands to the Campbells of Bread albane, and the Glenstrac line came to be recognised as chiefs, but not universally.
