 Strathtay Scottish
'''Strathtay Scottish Omnibuses Ltd''' was formed a bus operating subsidiary of the Scottish Transport Group in June 1985 from Walter Alexander and Sons (Midland) Ltd and Walter Alexander and Sons (Northern) Ltd. Today it is owned by Barnsley-based bus company Yorkshire Traction.
From its head office in Dundee, Strathtay Scottish had an operating area bounded by Laurencekirk in the north, Newport-on-Tay to the south and Perth to the east.
On its creation Strathtay was also the largest operator in Perth, Crieff and Pitlochry, but Depots in those towns have since closed and operations scaled back.

The new companies were Kelvin Scottish, Clydeside Scottish, Strathtay Scottish and Lowland Scottish, the strangely-named Borders company breaking away from the Eastern Scottish empire.
Clydeside Scottish and Kelvin Scottish were formed with this specifically in mind and, living up to expectations, both those operators produced an aggressive response.
All three Scottish Bus Group subsidiaries in the Glasgow area were to find that the Glasgow public, although fond of complaining about their incumbent operator, would in the event stay fiercely (or perhaps apathetically?) loyal to what many still perceived to be "The Corporation".

 Northern Scottish
'''Northern Scottish Omnibuses Ltd''' was a bus operating subsidiary of the Scottish Transport Group formed in June 1985 from Walter Alexander and Sons (Northern) Ltd and operated until 1992, when it became Bluebird Buses Ltd. This successor company is now a part of Stagecoach East Scotland.
Midland Scottish, itself a fellow SBG subsidiary and once also part of the Alexander's company, had continued to use the same logo, and as it rebranded itself as Midland Bluebird, Northern Scottish began trading as Bluebird Northern.
Though its operations remained largely the same since its formation in 1985 (and earlier) and with little competition, Northern Scottish was not one of the most profitable of the Scottish Bus Group subsidiaries, largely due the sparce population in its large operating area.

Stagecoach East Scotland - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Strathtay is the brand used for services within the city of Dundee and throughout Angus, with some services reaching Perth and into Aberdeenshire.
On the break up and privatisation of the Scottish Bus Group, Stagecoach was successful in acquiring two of the subsidiaries, namely Northern Scottish Omnibuses Ltd (in March 1991) and Fife Scottish Omnibuses Ltd (in July 1991).
The Strathtay operations bridged the gap between Stagecoach's Fife, Perth and Bluebird operations, giving the group a vast swathe of the country extending from Edinburgh through to Perth, northwards to Aberdeen and round to Inverness, with only Travel Dundee and First Aberdeen being the major non-Stagecoach operators within that area.
