Fantail - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Fantails are small insectivorous birds of southern Asia and Australasia all belonging to the genus Rhipidura and subfamily Rhipidurinae.
Most of the species are about 15 to 18 cm long, specialist aerial feeders, and named as "fantails", but the Australian Willie Wagtail, is a little larger, and though still an expert hunter of insects on the wing, concentrates equally on terrestrial prey.
It may be noted that the true wagtails are part of the genus Motacilla and family Motacillidae and are not particularly close relatives of the fantails.

Les oiseaux de la forêt sèche
As in this latter habitat, consisting of grazing land, niaoulis (Melaleuca quinquinerva) savannahs, mimosaceae (Leucaena leucocephala) wasteland, thickets, low ground forest and border forest, dry forest bird populations are composed of relatively commonplace species.
Their presence is an indicator of the non degraded dry forest state (diversified plant species, uncleared forest cover, cool and shady understory).
Colonization or desertion of sites by these bird species could be used as a tool to assess biological quality state and evolution of a site and therefore measure the success of restoration measures.

First seen at Million Dollar Point it was easy to squeak out of the dense bush where they continually called (in some respects more like a Shrike-thrush than a Whistler).
Common on Iririki (but not seen until the third day) and around Efate, also common in gardens and the edge of bush on Santo.
Only on Aore Island was it seen on the edge of the bush, it was usually in groups of three or four, easily squeaked up and with a slightly slower call than the commoner Grey Fantail.
