Streaked wren-babbler - 2 at Cuc Phuong, with 2 on both dates at Di Linh.
Streaked spiderhunter - Singles at Tam Dao, fairly common at Cuc Phuong and small numbers in the Da Lat area.

Streaked Wren Babbler Napothera brevicaudata Namdapha NP: 5 birds between Haldibari and Hornbill on 23rd and a single between Deban and Gibbon`s Land on 27th.
Spotted Wren Babbler Spelaeornis formosus Namdapha NP: surprisingly, this species could not be found, apart from a probable shortly heard on 26th at Hornbill.
White-hooded Babbler Gampsorhynchus rufulus Namdapha NP: 5 between Haldibari and Hornbill on 24th, 3 in the bamboo area beyond Bulbulia in a mixed flock of Rufous-headed Parrotbills; about 5 birds between Deban and Gibbon`s Land on 27th; Digboi Oilfields: a group of 3 birds seen on 29th.

 Best of the Malay Peninsula Bird Watching Report
This attractive babbler is restricted to scrub close to the water’s edge, so it is usually necessary to search for them from a boat.
This dun-coloured babbler is common at TN, but seeing one was still a bit of a challenge.
This attractive babbler was seen along the Swamp Loop Trail at TN on 25/9, and on the Blau Trail on 26/9 and 28/9.

A lot of the birds were right in the garden and some of the beauties we saw included Green and Black-and-red Broadbills; Little Green Pigeon; Oriental Pied Hornbill; Black-bellied, Raffles’s, Red-billed and Chestnut-breasted Malkohas; Common Tailorbird and a host of bulbuls.
It did so magnificently, as did Black-capped Babbler — a bird which although responding well to its playback calls before, we’d somehow managed to miss.
Then it was off to re-locate some of the birds which some had missed the previous afternoon when they decided to spent the time to work on the Malayan Peacock-Pheasant found by David during the afternoon break.

 Birding trip to Malaysia 1997
We returned to the Gap in the afternoon and waited for dusk and the arrival of the Malaysian Eared-Nightjars (Eurostopodus temmincki) which I had seen and heard well there in 1994, they appeared briefly around 7.30pm but were difficult to see due to the smog which had consolidated during the day.
The next day we were regaled with the calls or songs of White-handed Gibbons, which so impressed Marie that she tape-recorded them; they are certainly easier to hear than see.
Conditions at TN were far from perfect, the sun was a red disc at midday due to the smog and incredibly humid (although drought conditions were prevalent...this had it's advantages as we didn't see a leech until it rained on our penultimate day).

Main characteristics of the avifauna of Bach Ma NP Lying at the southern extent of the Endemic Bird Area (EBA), Bach Ma is known to support at least four of the restricted-range species found in this EBA: Partridge Arborophila merlini, Crested Argus Rheinardia ocellata, Short-tailed Scimitar Babbler Jabouilleia danjoui and Grey-faced Tit Babbler Macronous kelleyi.
Along the roadsides in the vicinity of the guesthouse is a good place to look out for Silver Pheasant in the early morning or late afternoon.
It is worth checking out the small streams that trickle out from either side of the road at various points for Slaty-backed Forktail Enicurus schistaceus as well as Streaked Wren Babbler Napothera brevicaudata skulking among the roadside rocks.

Finally, back at the campground, we had lunch (food must be brought into the park) and enjoyed a pair of Common Flamebacks, Gray-headed Woodpecker and Lesser Yellownape.
I wanted to look for Streaked Wren-Babbler at the stream by km18 but instead found another life bird; Spot-necked Babbler.
I again tried my tapes but with no gain except for a Spot-necked Babbler that was curious to see who was calling.

Chestnut-crowned and Spotted Bush Warblers, Yellow-bellied Prinia, Clamorous Reed, Dusky, and Smoky Warblers, and Red-capped Babbler in the reed beds and grasslands near water.
White-rumped Shama, Lesser-necklaced, and Rufous-necked Laughing Thrushes, Nepal Fulvetta and Streaked Spiderhunter favor dense forest and Yellow-bellied Warbler prefer thick bamboo undergrowth along the streams.

The elephant grass was rather long here and large areas were burned off this time of year.
Despite the fire and the smoke we saw many birds amongst them Black-necked Stork, the vociferous Swamp Francolin, Kalij Pheasant, Changeable Hawk-Eagle, Green Imperial-Pigeon, Greater Coucal, Savanna Nightjar, Chestnut-capped Babbler and a large group of the very restricted-range species, Spot-winged Starling.
Large mammals were everywhere in Kaziranga and we had great views of Indian Rhinoceros, Asiatic Elephant, Wild Water Buffalo, Swamp Deer and Hog Deer.

The fifth Birdquest focusing solely on Peninsular Malaysia was the best to date, with excellent birding conditions throughout, and a grand total of 248 species recorded; the majority of which were seen well by all participants.
Dry conditions were probably also the reason for the lack of fruiting fig trees but on this occasion, it hardly affected the variety of species that we were to come across.
We had great views of several species that are often very shy and difficult to see, at least in other parts of their range.

The second photo of the Scaly-crowned Babbler Malacopteron cinereum is not of this species but of the Rufous-crowned Babbler Malacopteron magnum.
Both recordings of the Limestone Wren-Babbler Napothera crispifrons actually are the song and calls of the Streaked Wren-Babbler Napothera brevicaudata.
The recording of the Rufous-backed Sibia Heterophasia annectens is not the call of this species, but the song of the Chestnut Bulbul Hypsipetes castanonotus, as pointed out by Philip Round.

Typical of forest at this elevation, the trees teem with feeding flocks which including electric Long-tailed Broadbills and a host of wintering passerines including several Phylloscopus warblers and Plain-tailed Warbler, a recently split Seicercus warbler.
Overhead we hope to hear the ‘whooshing’ sound of Great and Wreathed Hornbills, while Blue Pittas and Streaked Wren-babbler lurk in the undergrowth.
This morning we will make a special effort for Chestnut-headed Partridge if we haven’t seen it already, together with any other birds we may have missed the previous day.

Rufous-tailed Babbler/ Moupinia was in the scrub beyond and it is possible to continue over the ridge to explore the other side of the mountain, away from the madding crowds.
Longquan village is only a few km away and a good place to observe traditional Naxi way of life.
The following additional species were recorded at Ruili on May 24-25: Eurasian Cuckoo, Asian Koel, Mountain Scops-Owl, Pied Kingfisher, Stripe-breasted and Laced Woodpeckers, Red-rumped Swallow, Striated Grassbird, Hainan Blue Flycatcher, Streaked Wren-Babbler, Black-backed Sibia, Common Wood-Shrike, White-vented Myna, Nutmeg Manakin.

 Birdwatching Trip Report from MALAYSIA , SINGAPORE
Only seen at Taman Negara where up to 2 were seen on seven dates.
A single individual was seen with an Abbott's Babbler along the River Trail not far from the Tabing Hide at Taman Negara on the 28th.
A pair showed well along the edge of the Ridge Trail at Panti on the 14th and at Taman Negara seen on four dates in small numbers with incredibly up to 5 present at the Jenet Muda drinking pool at one time.

Enjoying a feast of the associated cockroaches was a stunning Black-backed Kingfisher and once the bats emerged so did no less than three dashing Bat Hawks and other raptors.
At Sukau we enjoyed memorable boat cruises and some of the star birds seen here included Storm's Stork, Lesser Adjutant, Lesser Fish-Eagle, Wallace's Hawk-Eagle, Slaty-breasted Rail, Blue-eared Kingfisher, Black-and-yellow Broadbill, Horsfield's, Short-tailed and Black-throated Babbler and Fluffy-backed Tit-Babbler.
A large troop of strange Proboscis Monkeys as well as Pig-tailed Macaque and Bearded Pig were also seen.

 NORTHEAST INDIA HIMALAYAN FOOTHILLS TOUR
The forest is magnificent and rich with birds, including such special species as: White-bellied Heron (rare, but possible), Pied Falconet, White-cheeked Partridge, Grey Peacock-Pheasant, Ibisbill (maybe), Blyth's Kingfisher, Brown and Rufous-necked Hornbills, Pale-headed Woodpecker, Slender-billed Scimitar-Babbler, Spotted Wren-Babbler, Snowy-throated Babbler, Rufous-vented Laughingthrush, Beautiful Sibia, Rufous-throated Fulvetta, Rufous-headed and Blue-spectacled Parrotbills, and Beautiful Nuthatch.
It is a good site for both White-bellied Heron and White-winged Duck, but we'll need some good fortune to find either.
Some special species which we have a good chance to see are: Greater Adjutant, Swamp Francolin, Marsh Babbler, Jerdon's Babbler, Slender-billed Babbler, Black-breasted Parrotbill, Swamp Prinia, and Jerdon's Buschat.
