AAW: Silent Möbius: The Motion Picture Review
Interestingly, Streamline turned down the volume relative to the dialogue on the worst of it, so a couple of scenes are noticeably better in the dub--the interrogation and the scene with Rally and Katsumi's mother in particular, though the former would have been most effective with no music at all.
Streamline also showed it as a double feature in US theaters, though in that case it was paired with the somewhat more logical choice of Neo Tokyo.
Streamline's VHS release looks nice, but the video is cropped from the movie's original slightly widescreen format, a pity for something this pretty.

FAQ // Laputa: The Castle in the Sky // Nausicaa.net
Laputa was originally dubbed into English, but not by Streamline Pictures as is often reported.
Streamline Pictures theatrically distributed an English-dubbed print of Laputa from March 24, 1989 for the next year, but Streamline never dubbed it.
Streamline licensed Laputa from Tokuma Shoten in late 1988 or early 1989, and was sent a print from Japan that had already been dubbed into English for use as an in-flight movie by Japan Air Lines on its trans-Pacific flights.

Anime Tourist - An Interview with Fred Patten
Jerry was with Streamline for about five years and then he got sidetracked on another project to do this coffee table art book on the 50 greatest cartoons.
So, when Carl and Jerry started Streamline pictures at the end of 1988, they asked me for advice on what were some of the most popular anime programs that Americans fans would like to see brought over and dubbed into English.
They started taking Streamline's names off of the videos and putting their own name on, which is how the the perception developed that Orion had bought Streamline.

 Profile: Carl Macek
Streamline was among the first American companies to dare release an anime in movie theaters, a risky venture that would pay off in spades.
Indeed to this day, Streamline's Ghibli dubs are examples of excellent voice dubbing and translation; Macek, being a Miyazaki fan, wouldn't have it any other way, making sure the American adaptations were met with Studio Ghibli's satisfaction.
Macek has since left Streamline Pictures and came under the brief employ of DiC and then ADV Films; today, he is a fixture at many science fiction and anime conventions across the United States.

Later he founded his own company, Streamline Pictures, which distributed anime and original programming for theatrical release, television, and home video market.
Streamline, Carl's own anime company, is best known for their excellent dubbing and distribution of the Studio Ghibli films: Castle Cagliostro, My Neighbor Totoro, and Kiki's Delivery Service.
This was at a time when dubbing was not very common and for the most part, not very good.  As a fan of Studio Ghibli's films, Carl did not think Laputa: Castle in the Sky (of which Streamline was the distributor) had received the quality of dubbing that a Ghibli film deserved.

On a final Lupin III note, I heard that Streamline had planned on purchasing all of (or at least, a large amount of) Lupin III TV, but Tokyo Movie wanted too much, so you settled for "the Miyazaki stuff." But then in 1995, we saw the release of "Mamo," a non-Miyazaki Lupin film.

Streamline Pictures seems to have placed the Pair in high regard, giving them prominence on their Web Page.
(Then again, the future of Streamline Pictures as an anime distributor is unclear.) Paradoxically, very little of the Pair's output has been released by Streamline, and what Streamline has released is often spotty.
Their short-lived TV series, for example, is nowhere to be found on legitimate video shelves in the USA.

The bad news is that, since Streamline Pictures put it out, there was never a re-release of it when Orion took over (as far as I know) and so only the original Streamline stock has it.

ince the demise of Streamline Pictures, it's been increasingly difficult for American anime fans to get their hands on legal copies of the 1988 classic
Katsuhiro Otomo's rich, gorgeous adaptation of his massive comic epic was never particularly well serviced by the Streamline edition--the dubbed voices (as was so often the case with Streamline releases) were shrill and unnatural, and the translation made the already dense storyline even more difficult to follow.
The dub and sub versions are reasonably close, varied only where necessary for the lip sync, which itself is a little off, but not jarringly so.

Although Streamline previously released Akira theatrically twelve years earlier, there was no lack of fan fare given to this release.
TriStar Pictures had also planned for a 2001 theatrical release of Metropolis, but the film, originally scheduled to be released in September, has had its release date pushed back to January 25th, 2002.

Streamline Pictures' mid-'90s disappearance from the Japanese animation distribution market was a relief to many hardcore anime fans.
For starters, it opened the possibility that the release rights to such cult hits as Vampire Hunter D and Nadia: The Secret Of Blue Water might eventually fall into the hands of companies that wouldn't maul the translations, botch the dubbing, and refuse to release unedited, subtitled editions.
Which certainly beats the previous choice: Tolerate Streamline's edition, or go without.

The Critical Eye | Lupin III: The Mystery of Mamo
Lupin III: The Mystery of Mamo (Streamline, 1995; originally Lupin vs. the Clones, 1978) was the first Lupin III production I’d ever seen, about ten years ago (in French, as Les folles aventures de Lupin III).
In the English translation, Streamline placed the film after the Cold War, and yet the visuals and music are obviously a product of the 1970’s.
In fact, this is one of those films that manages to bear the imprint of the 1970’s without being garish, tacky or dated.
