Street Fighter has been a popular title with gamers ever since the first title was released years ago.
Street Fighter has made a name for itself in the gaming world because of its fierce fighting style and combo-filled arsenal.
With Street Fighter titles, most gamers expect to see some improvements each time a new one is released, but simply expanding the number of characters is not sufficient.

Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike is the follow-up to Double Impact, which included two separate ports from the arcade.
There are still some problems in Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike, though, as the fighters continue to stand out from the somewhat flat backgrounds and things look a touch aliased whenever the camera zooms in for a close-up during a special move.
Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike is more than another step in the Street Fighter series; it's the current pinnacle of 2D fighting design.

Hardcore Street Fighter II players know that some dramatic changes were made to the game's characters from one year's version to the next--mostly in an effort to balance out the various fighters' strengths and weaknesses, but also to further differentiate each respective character.

When I got the Dreamcast version of Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike and started playing it, I realized that a good number of Capcom’s big moneymakers didn't really start earning their keep until their respective third iteration.
The rest of the line-up are fighters who are a pretty creative mix of character 'types' you've seen in the pas!!!t.
However, the point here is not to point out what's so nice about Street Fighter III in general, but what exactly 3rd Strike has to offer that the first two incarnations (known collectively as Double Impact) don't.

The most ironic thing about Street Fighter III is that it really is the proper sequel to Street Fighter II in ways that the Alpha and Vs. spin-offs never will be.
Unfortunately for Capcom, this game comes to the Dreamcast so long after Street Fighter III hit the Super Nintendo that most of these features are no longer what players are looking for in a fighter.
Pressing forward before the second of impact is counter-intuitive to years of training in Capcom fighters, but the parry technique, when mastered, increases the depth of the fighting engine by leaps and bounds, removing much of the predictable nature of many fights and giving players great reason to really put time into the game.

G4 - Feature - Street Fighter Anniversary Collection Review
Street Fighter II wasn’t the first attempt at a truly deep 2D fighting game (SNK’s World Heroes and, the arguably better Fatal Fury 2 were neck-and-neck with Capcom), but Capcom’s more mainstream approach and success in arcades created a revolution in fighting games.
This means you can have the Super Street Fighter II version of Chun Li (still probably the greatest fighting female in gaming) versus the original Street Fighter II Ryu, along with an incredible amount of other fights that would have created the ultimate dream match mayhem in 1994.
While the Street Fighter III line came out at the tail end of the 2D fighting craze, and was mostly overlooked, the third time was a charm for this new line of fighters.
