While it is a subset of documentary photography, street photography differs from traditional documentary photography in that it documents a portrait of the world, rather than a specific subject.

Street photographs mainly are about how people utilize and interact with the street and its comprising and surrounding elements, but are not limited to human portrayal.
While many street photos are documentary in style and substance, they can be abstract, funky, or "edgy", and speak about events, emotions, passion, humor, irony, or pathos.
