FREDERICK JAMES FAIRLAND STREETLY   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-23)
When Frederick James Fairland Streetly came to Trinidad in 1925, one of the first things he noticed was the state of formal education in the country.
Streetly's reaction to this at the time could not have been anything more than that of a concerned observer, for what brought him to Trinidad was not the state of education in the island, nor was it technology.
Streetly had held talks with the management of the oil refinery at Pointe-a-Pierre to ensure that all the graduates of his school were given jobs as apprentices on the completion of their course.

Streetly Electronics: the original Mellotron makers.
Streetly Electronics is run by John Bradley (son of Les, the managing director of the original Streetly Electronics, Mellotron manufacturers in the early days) and Martin Smith, Mellotron nut and all round good egg.
The Bradleys, who were now trading as Streetly Electronics (having also been Mellotronics Manufacturing, part of the Eric Robinson Organisation, and also Aldridge Electronics for a short time) had to start afresh with a new name for their product, and eventually came up with Novatron.
The factors which eventually sunk them were their weight and bulk, the comparative unreliability of an electro-mechanical system once it was subjected to the rigours of gigging, (particularly in having to withstand changes of temperature and humidity in being loaded and unloaded at venues) and their inability to manipulate sound like a sampler can.
