Strict programming language - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A strict programming language is one in which only strict functions may be defined by the user.
Strict programming languages are often associated with eager evaluation, and non-strict languages with lazy evaluation, but other evaluation strategies are possible in each case.
In many strict languages, some advantages of non-strict functions can be obtained through the use of macros or thunks.

Strict constructionism is a philosophy of judicial interpretation and legal philosophy that holds to the meanings of words and phrases as used when they were written down.
A judge who is a "strict constructionist" in constitutional matters will generally not be favorably inclined toward claims of either criminal defendants or civil rights plaintiffs—the latter two groups having been the principal beneficiaries of the Supreme Court's "broad constructionist" reading of the Constitution.
Ronald Dworkin argues that strict constructionism is irreconcilable with the interpretive nature of law.

 After MacPherson: Strict Liability
Strict liability not only creates those incentives, but also brings about the economically correct levels of production: suppliers' prices will reflect the relative riskiness of their goods, making consumers adjust their purchases to the level they would have demanded if they were fully informed about the products' residual hazards.
Under strict liability, if bottles are more dangerous than cans even after these safety measures have been taken, the price differential between the two will reflect the risks and thus spur consumers to adjust their consumption decisions accordingly.
Yet in the 1970s, the idea behind replacing negligence liability with strict liability seemed wonderfully ingenious: rather than setting forth standards to which citizens are expected to conform their behavior, the proposed strict liability device would manipulate citizens and product manufacturers to make efficient choices.

It is the Strict Father model of the family that, under the ubiquitous Nation-as-Family metaphor, gives rise to the resentment of government "meddling" and the conservative hatred of government, and it is the application of discipline and denial in child rearing that produces conservative rage.

 Relative Strict-Priority Scheduling
Relative strict priority provides low latency only if you undersubscribe the port by shaping all VCs on the port so that the sum of the shaping rates is less than the port rate.
Because the strict and nonstrict packets for a VC are scheduled in separate round robins, the scheduler cannot enforce an aggregate rate for both of them.
The major difference between relative and true strict priority on ATM line modules is that relative strict priority shapes the aggregate for the VC to a pre-cell tax rate, whereas true strict priority shapes the aggregate for the VC to a post-cell tax rate.

 STRICT LIABILITY FOR HANDGUN MANUFACTURERS:
strict liability should be imposed on producers in order to force them to incorporate accident costs into the price of their products.

The corresponding strict formulas are not provable in S1°; this is, in fact, a feature which distinguishes S1° from its proper extension S2°; many theses which are strict implications in the latter system are only material in the former.

Thelen Reid Report No. 72: California Supreme Court Imposes Strict Liability on Manufacturers of Defective Components ...
First, the ruling on strict liability means that homeowners suing a manufacturer for producing a defective product are not required to prove negligence, i.e., that the damage to their homes was caused by the defendant's failure to exercise reasonable care in the design or manufacture of the product.
Rather, they may recover in strict liability by proving that the product was defective when it left the factory and that the defect caused the damage.
Second, the decision is clear that strict liability applies to "the manufacturers of component parts, here windows, that are installed in mass-produced homes…" But what products or materials will qualify as "component parts" that are subject to strict liability is not well-defined in Jimenez.
