		SUCCESS rates for IVF could be more than doubled by a new method for testing the viability of human embryos before they are transferred to the womb.
		Lynette Scott of the Fertility Centers of New England in Reading, Massachusetts, and her colleagues have been measuring respiration rates in both eggs and early embryos to identify viable candidates for fertilisation and implantation.
		The respiration rate of healthy embryos increases around five days after fertilisation, the team found, as the ball of cells that is the early embryo begins to differentiate.
