Strine, who was confirmed to the court in November 1998 at the age of 33, has emerged as the hardest-working, wittiest, and most outspoken judge on the world's most important court dealing with corporate law.
Later that year, Strine held that two Oracle directors with strong social ties to their fellow board members couldn't be "independent" for the purpose of investigating allegations of director misbehavior.
In Strine's Hollinger opinion, for instance, he was careful not to create a broad new rule or standard to govern the rights of shareholders with a controlling interest in a company to amend its bylaws.

Strine was first documented by Afferbeck Lauder back in the 1960's.
His groundbreaking work - Let Stalk Strine - highlighted the fact that Australians had not only developed their own idioms in English but had, in fact, developed a whole different language.

Strine agreed that the SLC members would win if this was the standard, as they were "distinguished, tenured faculty members whose current jobs would not be threatened by whatever good faith decision they made as SLC members." But Strine felt that the economic interest standard was too shallow.
While it would seem that Strine's words could be used to impugn the independence of any director on an SLC investigating other directors, I'm pretty sure Strine did not intend to overrule every prior Delaware SLC case permitting directors to investigate each other.
I just think that Oracle was a close case, Strine had to stretch to justify his holding, and in the process of doing this he constricted Delaware's existing independence standard so tightly that no one can fit through it.
