The quagga had the zebra striping pattern in the front of the animal, but had a dark rump; (3) when the region between the pigmented bands becomes too wide, secondary stripes emerge, as if suppression was weakening.
If the stripes were originally parallel, those in the rear of the embryo would be pulled back towards the rump by the growth of the hindparts of the horse (Figure 2B).
Similarly, if the stripes of the common zebra were generated during the third week of zebra gestation, the differential growth rate of the rump between weeks three and four would also pull the stripes posteriorly (Figure 2C).

In an effort to deter Stripes from entering the big race, a gang of equine delinquents ambush him and beat him unconscious; although the actual attack isn’t shown, the audience sees him the next morning lying by a pond covered with muddy hoof prints.
On the less serious side, Stripes runs head-on into a tree while racing the mailman, and a fly is sneezed into a wall in a blob of horse snot.
After telling him off, she stomps to the barn and announces to Stripes, “I’m gonna race and no one can stop me.” The next morning, Dad discovers both girl and “horse” are missing and heads over to the racetrack, where zebra paparazzi are having a heyday and the Channing-Stripes team is flying down the track.

He admits that the use of stripes on coats of arms is not pejorative and that stripes have been used successfully in modern fashions.
The pejorative nature of stripes was founded on a legend sparked in the Bible's pages, and the Carmelite order figured that stripes would be a good uniform for its members, while the members of other orders wore sober solid colors.
The stripe's changing meaning is explored; two chapters, "From the Diabolic to the Domestic," and "From the Domestic to the Romantic" are especially useful.

 Superconductors Show Their Stripes
However, if many holes settle on a long stripe of several copper-oxygen rows, they form a runway along which there is no magnetism and no field pattern to disrupt.
Unfortunately for proponents of this scenario, charge stripes had been directly observed in only one high-temperature superconductor, lanthanum strontium copper oxide, and even then researchers had to add some impurities to hold the stripes still.
The results strengthen the case for a connection between high-temperature superconductivity and stripes, says Steven Kivelson of the University of California, Los Angeles, an originator of the stripes theory.
