Topic: Stromboidea

Abstract   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-08-16)
Schröder (1995) emphasized that many Mesozoic "Epitoniidae" are actually Stromboidea, and he united such species in the genus Mesostrombus.
My impression is that some of the species in question are rather Zygopleuridae because they lack the complex aperture which is typical for Stromboidea.
It could be demonstrated that Janthinoidea and Cerithiopsoidea had Cretacous representatives which do not differ significantly from Recent species of these groups.

Recently Dr. Luiz Ricardo Simone has performed some analysis on stromboideans.
most surprising in his analysis is that the Xenophoridae are, once again, placed in the Stromboidea.
This is supported by observations made by Kiel, Steffen and MarĂa del Carmen Perrilliat, 2001.
