	Barbara Strozzi
		Barbara Strozzi is one of the better known female composers of the Baroque era, probably because she had a such a large musical output, most of which has survived to the present day.
		Barbara Strozzi was born in Venice on August 6, 1619.
		Her use of the name Strozzi was first documented in 1638 in "Le Veglie de' Signori Unisoni." This publication, which describes the meetings of the Accademia degli Unisoni, an academy founded in 1637 by Guilio Strozzi, was dedicated to Barbara Strozzi.

	Biography
		In about 1610 he was allowed to leave his community to look after his sick and widowed mother, and after she died in 1630 he is said to have been pressurized to return, this accounting for his move in 1631 to Venice where he spent the rest of his life).
		Strozzi was successful and prolific in both Genoa and Venice, painting portraits and allegorical and genre scenes (often of musicians) as well as religious works.
		Strozzi's interpretation of these trends was highly original and combined with his thorough knowledge of other currents in art, from the Lombard school to the diffusion of Caravaggio's style.

		Barbara Strozzi, often referred to as “la virtuosissima cantatrice” (the most virtuosic singer), was born in Venice, Italy, in 1619.
		In 1628 she was made his only heir, so it is apparent that Strozzi was very close to her father, which aided her education, publicity, and subsequent success.
		It was assumed that Strozzi’s mother was a courtesan, as these women were free to educate themselves in arts and social matters.

		In fact, the mother was a servant in the house of Giulio Strozzi, a prominent citizen and highly respected man of letters, who subsequently referred to Barbara as his adoptive daughter and designated her is his heiress.
		In 1644 Barbara Strozzi published her first Opus: "the first work that I, as a woman, all too daringly bring to the light of day." The texts are again by Giulio Strozzi.
