  Silence as Discourse
In treating silence as gendered, I will argue that silence must be as heavily gendered as voice is gendered in the use of language; the implication being that silence and speech can have a different weight, meaning or value depending on whether it is a woman or a man who is speaking or silent.
The notion that silence may be a form of discourse, then, derives its substance from the use of the definitions of discourse and silence and from Foucault's discussion of the transformation of sex into discourse.
The gendering of Eve's silence is crucial to the interpretation of this passage from a feminist view point; Eve's voice is given relatively little importance as her narrative's substance relates to the importance of the Father's Word.

Silence, then can be defined as: the fact of abstaining or forebearing from speech or utterance -- that is: muteness, reticence, taciturnity; the state or condition when nothing is audible; the omission of mention, remark, or notice in narration; and the failure to communicate or reply in speech or narration.
Silence as a form of discourse, then, derives its substance from the use of the definitions of discourse and silence and from Michel Foucault's discussion of the transformation of sex into discourse.
We can see that silence as a form of discourse is as difficult aconcept as intertextuality is for Nyquist; the boundaries of human speech are nearly endless, and so the boundaries of silence can also be appreciated as vast and unapproachable in their "undefined discursive space", a term Nyquist uses in reference to intertextuality.

Silence here is an isotopical presence.(8) Lisa Block de Behar understands that a rhetoric of silence is inherently a contradiction, but she also explains that it refers to a set of dialectical speculations that help writers to avoid the automatization of language.
However, silence is of no use if the reader is not aware that there is something to be done with it, that he or she should read beyond and interpret this apparent gap in words or ideas.
This silence is reciprocal and at the end it contributes to the destruction of their relationship: "Martha closed her eyes and didn't say another word to me, not even good-bye" (42).

Roach, Steve - Structures from silence - Groove Unlimited
Structures from Silence is a living example of the true healing quality that music can hold.
What sets it aside from his other works is the use of harmonic structures, there's even room for melody something that Roach rarely uses in his composition method, maybe that's the reason why he likes to be called a "sound sculptor", like Brian Eno himself likes to be called "non musician".
Structures is American music response to the ambient music scene, not only Eno but some german musicians too.

More time, Steve Roach's Structures From Silence is right up there with Brian Eno's "Music for Airports," and deservedly so.
Originally released in 1984, Structures From Silence was deemed a classic almost immediately, but the contrast grew greater as Roach's output did, and the sheer beauty and clarity of this recording became more clear with time; then the album became a bit of a legend after it went out of print.
Structures From Silence 2001 has also been re-mastered for better sound quality, thus creating an even more evocative atmospheric listening experience.

Thus, chromatin is a remarkably dynamic material; structures formed to prevent gene expression can be remodeled to enable expression in response to cellular signals during growth and development.
The basic unit of chromatin structure is the nucleosome, which consists of a "bead" composed of eight histone proteins, around which 147 base pairs of DNA are wrapped.

Patricia Laurence - The Reading of Silence: Virginia Woolf in the English Tradition (Stanford University Press, 1992)
The author shows how Woolf challenges this notion and extends the genre of the novel by valuing and representing the inner lives of women, in particular, through a lexicon of silence, a punctuation of suspension, and metaphors and structures of silence.
She examines silence as a ritual of truth for women in novels by Jane Austen and Charlotte Bronte, and as "absence" in a sample of male novelists--Samuel Richardson, Charles Dickens, George Meredith and Thomas Hardy.
In contrast, the author presents silence as a cultural and narrative space in which women observe, think, dream, resist: a vital space that we as readers are learning to read.
