  Strumica - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Strumica (Turkish: Usturumca, Bulgarian: Strumitsa) is a city of about 55,000 people in southeastern Republic of Macedonia.
The city is named after the Strumica river which runs through it.
Following World War I, Strumica passed from Bulgaria to the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes as a part of Serbia before forming a part of the new Macedonian republic created in 1943 where it remained until 1991 when Macedonia declared independence from Yugoslavia.

The Diocese of Strumica, headed by His Eminence Metropolitan Nahum covers the territory of the Strumica municipality, including the municipalities of the towns Dojran, Berovo, Pehčevo with their parishes.
In the last years of the twentieth century, the Strumica diocese became a nursery-garden of the renewed monasticism in the Macedonian Orthodox Church.

Strumica will be the venue for two major "Europe Day 2000" on Monday 8 May - the official inauguration of the newly-rehabilitated Psychiatric Department of the town's hospital, and of the Regional Enterprise Support Centre.
The second opening ceremony in Strumica will be that of a centre to give business advice to private enterprises in the town and region, and, where appropriate, to point them in the direction of possible sources of finance.
The Strumica RESC is one of five established, through NEPA, in towns throughout the country, to aid small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Strumica /STROO-mee-tsa/ is the largest supplier of fruit and vegetable produce in the country.
Close to Strumica, Tsar Samuil's forces lost a major battle against the Byzantine army (1014 A.D. The ruins of the castle where this battle was fought are located on the mountains above the town.
The Strumica region is known for its Strumički /STROOM-eech-ki/ dialect, which is more Bulgarian in nature than most Macedonian dialects and is often the most difficult dialect to understand for a person who has learned standard Macedonian.

Saint Andrew 2004, organised by the Movement for Culture of Living from Skopje (a non-governmental organisation founded in the year 2000), today on a pilgrimage the camp participants visited few of the revived monasteries of the Strumica diocese.
Their visit here began with paying reverence in the monastery of the Holy Great-martyr Leontius in Vodoča, after which they left for the female monastery of the Most Holy Theotokos Eleusa in Veljusa.
Following the meal and the walk around the monastery complex in Veljusa, answering the questions of this group of young God-seekers, their host in the diocese, Metropolitan Nahum of Strumica, spoke to them about the foundations of the ascetical and hesychastic struggle of Orthodox spirituality.

In one word, the denials coming from the `Strumica tabak' representatives were refuted and it is established that, after all, the seed was brought illegally from Greece.

A marble plate with the town’s antique name “Tiveriopolis” was found during the archaeological excavations, a large Megar cup with figural realistic erotic scenes, as well as fresco art originating from the 11th century AD.

The time- limit for acceptance of the public takeover bid is 30 days from the first publish of the extract from the takeover prospectus and the public takeover bid in a daily newspaper issued of the territory of the Republic of Macedonia and on the web page of the Macedonian Stock Exchange.
According to this decision, the MSEC ceased the suspension of trading with "Zito Strumica" AD Strumica’s shares and entrusted the Macedonian Stock Exchange AD Skopje to provide regular trading with the shares through its BEST system.
