Bell's Theorem has come to be regarded a proof that the underlying theory of the universe must be a quantum-mechanical one, although Bell's original goal was just the opposite.
Bell became a supporter of the Bohm interpretation, a nonlocal hidden variable theory involving superluminal signalling, calling its suppression a "scandal" within physics, and took to defending his work against those whom he perceived as distorting its meaning to favor indeterministic quantum mechanics such as the Copenhagen and Everett "many-worlds" interpretations.
Bell died unexpectedly of a cerebral haemorrhage in Belfast in 1990.
STUART BELL UK MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT GOES ONLINE - Press Release(Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-22)
MP for Middlesbrough, Mr StuartBell, is reaching out to his constituents — and the world.
The website lists Mr Bell’s duties as Second Church Estates Commissioner, Chairman of the Finance and Services Committee of the House of Commons, and his duties as a member of the House of Commons Commission, where he serves with Mr Speaker.
Mr Bell said constituents should be fully informed on a wide range of issues that affect them and would now have their own direct access to the Member of Parliament through a specially dedicated e-mail service.
After nine months in the colliery office, Stuart joined the local Blaydon Courier and aged eighteen came to London to work briefly as copytaker for the Daily Telegraph and later as typist and shorthand-typist in the City of London where he worked four years for an employment agency.
Stuart has been a member of the General Municipal and Boilermakers’ Union since 1978; he has been a sponsored Member of Parliament until such time as sponsorship fell into desuetude.
StuartBell was expected to become a junior minister when Labour came to power in 1997, having done long service on the front bench.
However, he was instead given the job (which he initially refused) of second church estates commissioner - essentially the Church's representative in the Commons.
He has had a colourful career on the right of the party, which has included an attempt to sue Clare Short for libel (it was settled out of court).
Sir Stuart has been a member of the Labour Party since 1964 and has been the Labour MP for Middlesbrough since 1983.
Sir StuartBell was formally invested by His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales on Friday 25th June 2004.
Sir Stuart also has a distinguished career as both a Barrister and a writer www.spenviewpublications.com with several novels, short stories and political tracts to his name, such as 'Pathway To The Euro' here.
