From June of 1941 until August of 1945, the Studebaker Corp. at South Bend, Indiana, produced almost 200,000 of their legendary 2½-ton US6.
The truck came in 13 variations, as 6x6 and 6x4, with short (148in.) and long (162in., shown here) wheelbase, with and w/o winch, as cargo and dump truck and as tractor.
The truck is of the early U3 version, with the wipers still fixed to the cab, the fuel tank on their usual place and the firm logo showing on the brushguard.

Katyusha - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The weapon was also known as "Stalin's Organ", so named by German troops due to its resemblance to a pipe organ.
Stalin's Organ was used on many platforms during World War II, mounted on trucks (including Studebaker US6's provided by U.S. Lend Lease), on tanks, and occasionally even on tractors; modified versions were also mounted on airplanes.
It was a relatively simple design consisting of racks of parallel rails on which rockets were mounted, with a folding frame to raise the rails to launch position.

Of course, Studebaker demanded more service attention and good fuel, but, in comparison with our GAZ-AA and ZIS-5, it was truck of even not 2nd, but may be 3rd generation.

GMC and US 6 (Studebaker) Truck Variants Review by Brett Green (PST 1/72)
PST has added five trucks based on the chassis of either the GMC 2 1/2 ton truck, or the US 6 Studebaker chassis to their range of 1/72 scale vehicles.
The contents of each small somewhat flimsy box is based around two common sprues for all the variants, and one cab depending on whether the version is a GMC or Studebaker chassis.
Decals are included in all five kits, but they have a very flat appearance suggesting possible problems with application and, in particular, hiding carrier film.

At the end of 1942, an improved version of the M-30 with longer range was introduced, called M-31, still launched from the »Rama«s.
In March 1944, at last, twelve M-31 in two rows were installed on the Studebaker US6 chassis, thus dramatically improving the mobility.
This combination proved extremely successful in the further course of war, in particular during the fierce street fightings of Budapest and Berlin.

Cybermodeler Online - Trumpeter 1/35 Soviet ZIL-157K Military Truck Review
The light Willys MB "Jeep" was superior to the clunky converted cars like the GAZ M-1 and the six-wheel trucks - the GMC CCKW, Studebaker US6, and International M-5-6 - all had three driven axles, transfer cases, and brakes on all six wheels.
While the Soviet industry did not produce any really equivalent trucks during the war, once the war was over they took a look at creating their own versions of this class of truck.
Using the two most prevalent - the GMC and Studebaker models - they created a synthesized and "Sovietized" version of the trucks at the "Stalin" automotive factory (ZiS) which initially had only two axles as had all previous Soviet medium cargo trucks (ZiS-150).

This meant that near the end of the war (1944-45), firefighting equipment was installed on on the chassis of the ZIS-42 half-track and the US-6 Studebaker truck.
The Studebaker chassis has been used in at least two other kits; one a standard truck and the other a Katyuska rocket launcher.
If you recall from a previous preview of PST kits (please visit that preview for a look at the other sprues), I mentioned that the differences between the Studebaker and GMC trucks were offered on the same sprue, save that the cabs included were different.

This book in the excellent Model Detail Photo Monograph series covers in great detail the US Studebaker truck of WWII which while losing out to the GMC CCKW353 for US service saw many used by other Allies in particular through the Russian lend lease program.
While small in size, measuring 8 3/8” x 6” (213mm x 153mm) and with just 48 pages, the book is packed with super close up photos of all those details modellers really love.
A superb photo reference on the Studebaker and if you only want a single modelling reference then this would easily be the one as the photos are simply superb and answer any questions on the vehicles features.
